NFS SHIFT can't change graphics

    I have NFS SHIFT and it stars up fine and I can go into races and stuff but after the lights it with a message saying an error occured this program needs to close. With default graphic pref. it works fine but it-s unplayable because it goes 2 maybe 3 fps. If I change anything it'll just quit when I start a race. I tried reinstall it 3 times and deleting all the preferences. What can I do?

    I have vista home x64, intel i7 920 2.6ghz, 3gb ram, ati card

    sorry for my late reply. yes it is a legit version cause it's the demo. I forgot to put that in.

    What's your graphics card? (ATI doesn't exactly mean much :p)

    A couple of times the full game has closed for me at the start of a race, but other than that, it's run perfectly.
