I went to WalMart yesterday and picked up the Sony Accucore DVDs (YUDEN000T02 = Taiyo Yuden made) with a price match to BestBuy for $14.99/50pk. I feel way more confident burning with these and have taken a bit more pride in the care I give them. Thanks alot everyone!

rcm999, the Verbatim will work great if you want Taiyo Yuden you can get them online at supermediastore.com and or meritline.com at very good prices OR you can buy Fujifilm and or Sony DVD+R 8X and look on the package for "Made In Japan" theses will code out as Taiyo Yudens also.

rcm999- The Fuji DVD-R media That says Made in japan on the packaging /Spindle usually near the barcode/ proof of purchase symbol is also Taiyo yuden as well should you desire or need to make a burn in the DVD-R Format ! Just thought you'd want to know that as well ! & I can say from experience in using theese that they are excellentas well -like all Taiyo Yuden media !BestBUy puts them on sale like every other week or so ! Just make sure that they say Made in Japan & they will be Taiyo Yudens! You may have to dig through the the spindles though as they will be mixed in with the Fuji Media that is Made in Taiwan - Which you don't want . If the Fuji's are not on sale Bestbuy also puts VERBATIM brand media onsale as well! which is excellent media as well! rcm999 - Good luck and Happy burning My friend! & Happy Holidays EVeryone!!!!!

Best Buy has Fuji DVD+/-R 100 pack spindles on sale for $29.99. That one's a no-brainer. ;-) I still have a 50-pack of Fuji DVD+R which I ID'd as TY. My problem was with DL media. The Verbatims (MCC) I swapped out for solved the problem. I still have a 15-pack of Memorex to unload somehow.

From the messages here I'm convinced Fuji/TY(Japan) and Verbatim/MCC (Singapore) are the two leaders. I've used Maxell/Hitachi in the past and had good results.

No matter, Memorex and the el-cheapos are a thing of the past with me. Thanks everyone for the kind words and reaffirmation.

    Bigtoxy69,

Surprisingly enough, I went to BB after work to get a 100 pack of the Fuji on sale for $34.99. The 100 pack of the DVD+R and DVD-R were Taiwan, the 50 pack of DVD+R was Taiwan and the 50 pack of DVD-R was Singapore. My Verbatims are Singapore and ID out as MCC. Could it be that Japan and Singapore are the "made in"'s to watch?

rcm999- with Fuji's the made in Japam are the ones to watch for !My understanding from writing verbatim is that the Sinapore plant is only making DVD+R DL disc at this time so regular DVD+R or DVD-R Made by verbatim in sinGapore is older stock ! It's hard to Generalize because there are exceptions to every rule ! But in general Japanese Made disc tend to be better quality MAXELL'S made in japan , SONY's MIJ By taiyo Yuden or SONY , Fuji's MIJ Made by Taiyo Yuden for fUji ... Ect. ! There are Exceptions like VERBATIMS that are Made By verbatim in Taiwan Excellent media ! Riteks Good media also made in Taiwan. RICOH also ! Avoid Any media made in hong kong not good ! As for media Made in Singapore The verbatims that are made there I have'nt used so if they are as good as the taiwan made ones you should be fine ! Gotta go to work myself ! Good luck & happy Holidays !

Luck be my lady! I found my receipt from Office Max and returned the opened 15-pack of Memorex DVD+R DL. The store defected them out and I got a refund. In checking over some of the Verbatim DVD+R 16x, I saw all of theirs was Made in Taiwan! Most everything they had was MIT. They were out of the Verbatim DVD+R DL they had on sale. :-(

I left and went to Office Depot and found the same thing. Now they did have some Maxell DVD+R on sale for $24.99/50pack; some were MIT, some MIJ. (?????) All of their media except some Maxell is MIT.

I still have an ample stock to keep me burning through the weekend, so perhaps I’ll just order online and get the TY’s.

Peace and happiness to all of you kind folks throwing in your valued opinions and knowledge on the media burning issue.

Good answers by gurus here. To let you know the Fuji's (50 pack MIT) at BB are PRODISC-R05-01 not impressive media. I thought I would get lucky and get the TY's, I was wrong (I know MIJ). To answer a quandry early in the thread, [bold]@creaky[/bold]: SONY's are good in my opinion. I have burned 150 plus and had zero coasters. I definitely agree w/ Kivory666, creaky, aabbccdd, and the other gurus that Maxell&Fuji/TY's (150 plus burns-no coasters) and Verbs/MCC (200 plus burns-no coasters) are about the best media you can buy. So spend the extra few cents and get the better media, you will be very happy you did later in the life of the disc. Good luck and happy burning.

Well, I am glad I did not opt for the MIT Fuji's. Verbatim DVD+/- are on sale again this week at BB for $14.99/50 out the door. I picked up two, although MIT, they are MCC. Here's hoping everyone had a great holiday season and wishing you a Happy New Year. I appreciate eveyone's 2-cents' worth. But if it's a penny for your thoughts, where does the extra 1 cent go?

    Burn on!

    BIGTOXY69-
You are correct. My mistake. I was trying to recall from this old tired brain. Verbatim was last week. Fuji is this week. Sorry if I got any folks all stirred up. ;-)

Hello! I'm trying to burn my first DVD in a Mac OS X (I'm new on Mac), an unsuccessful attempt. I've already had some help from "thelox714". He reccomended me to read this threat. He advised me to have some quality blank media too.

I'm using Toast 6 Titanium to burn and the computer doesn't accept the TDK DVD+R 8.5GB. When it supposed to write, the following message appears:

    "Please insert a recordable disc.
    Matshita DVD-R UJ-835E"

I used the DVD Media Inspector and it can't recognize the blank DVD as well.

Before buying a blank DVD, how should I know if it is compatible?

I'd appreciate if someone can help me!
    Thanks!

sounds like your system only accepts the DVD-R format NOT the DVD+R ,so try the DVD-R that should work good brands are Taiyo Yuden and or Verbatim

I may stir it up again, but here goes. It is my understanding that TDK DVD+RW-4X are supposed to be Ricohjpn, and of pretty good quality. Stopping after work this afternoon at CompUSA, I found them on sale for $12.99/25 pack. I examined closer, and there it was as big as life - Made in Taiwan. I checked other media and found the majority was MIT. I did find Made in Singapore (Verbatim DL, naturally), plus I saw China, India, Malaysia, and I believe Luxembourg. Not a single MIJ.

I asked a floor salesman about MIJ media and he acted as though I was an idiot. Does Ricohjpn have a plant in Taiwan, and would I be safe with these? If not, what is the top dog in DVD+RW media?

I think that the Sony's are a good buy on sale. Most of their stuff is good quality and they make their own DVD's as well (as far as I know). I just looked at the web and the TDK's (DVD+RW) are on sale but I know that some of the stuff you get from TDK comes from less desirable manufacturers. I have had extremely good luck with Sony and Verbatim (MCC) so my bet would be to stick with one of those brands if you can. Yeah I never ask the salepeople about the origin of the media, they do look at you like your nuts. Good hunting and as they say burn on.

Ok, everyone. I found out the problem. My disc burning accepts DVD-R / +R, maybe accepts any brand too, just doesn't accept Single Layer. I was trying to burn a movie around 6,5Gb, using a DVD 8.5Gb (just double layer)...... so, it would never, ever work!!! See ya next time!

I'm pretty much sold on TY and MCC. I understand that the Fuji 8x DVD+R MIJ are TY, and MIT are Ricohjpn. BestBuy has the 50pack of Fuji DVD+/-R's on sale for $14.99. Does anyone know if these are MIJ or MIT? Just curious before I make the trip into town.

    Thanks much guys!
