rcm999 , as of late noone is finding any (MIJ) fujifilm media iam sure the dash format isnt for sure , your have better luck finding the sonys DVD+R (MIJ) or you can always buy Taiyo Yuden online at SMS.com there 300 pack runs 78.99 with shipping
aabbccdd, Had to run Wal-Mart for groceries and other things and thought I'd check out their selection of DVD+R media. This being a small-town store with little stock turn over I hoped would chance me better at finding Sony or Fuji MIJ. There they were - Sony MIJ with the octagon spacer. They were $24/50 pack which made me think 48 cents each was worth it. Brought them home, and they ID'd out as TY! Thanks for the reply! Happy burning everyone. Ron
I bought some a couple of months ago and did not look at the origin of the media and brought home the MIT's. If I am correct they indicate on the label but unfortunately I have not been to BB and checked. If it's not to far it is worth the trip. BTW I normally buy my DVD media at Sam's, Verbatim (MCC)($15/ 50 pack). If you have a Sam's or Cosco in your area I would give them a try. Good luck on the media hunt. C
great rcm999 glad you were able to find the good stuff (Taiyo Yuden)next time look around you can do better on the price than 48 cents each. you can find the 50 pack Sonys on sale for 14.99
Taiyo Yuden is the way to go. I bought some 16X TY discs with the TYG03 dye. Holy shiiit. Burnt at 16X. PI below 10, PO below 2. Nice. The best scans I've ever done. Plays on Xbox perfectly. I'm buying some more of these babies. http://www.cdr-by-mail.co.uk/acatalog/CDR_By_Mail_DVD_R_21.html#ty
The Staples here isn't running any specials. I found a 75-pack of MIJ Sony DVD+R at Sam's for $26, so I bought two and returned the two $24 50-packs to Wally World. BTW, Supermediastore is selling a 10-pack of Verbatim DVD+R DL for $16.99 shipped (including a rebate).
kiss161, Go to the very first post in this thread. There is a very good list of the media there, along with the codes. If you're looking for the grading on specific brands, stick with Taiyo-Yuden, Fuji (Japan), Sony (Japan), or Verbatim. Most anything made in Japan or made by Verbatim will be top notch. Search these forums. There's a wealth of knowledge and opinions out there and a lot of great folks who'll help you right along.
The info and help from everyone on here is great! Since my Memorex/Imation/Hp blunderous era I am now a Sony 1x-8X DVD+R user. These are getting harder to find BUT they identify as TY's! I've been getting them more recently buried behind the new 1x-16x Sonys(which are not TY's, but still pretty good)at Best Buys and Circuit City's. It seems that these two competitors are alternating weekly sales. So in the Chicago area they are always available for $14.99/50pk. The problem is I am noticing more and more 16X discs which bums me out, so after I cycle through all these TY sonys, I am just going to have to buy the TY themselves online!
Actually.. the list on front is quite outdated, and now resides in my archived forums.... (http://archive.speedlabs.org/index.php?topic=357.0) A current list, and an explanation as to what the MID's actually mean can be found here-->http://www.speedlabs.org/index.php?topic=23.0 Enjoy.
@rcm999 As you mentioned anything made by Verbatim is usually good, how about the DVD+R 8x made in Taiwan? Are they just as good as the ones made in Japan? Edit- I just read an entire thread on this topic, I guess my questions have been answered
dusk77, Generally speaking if it's Verbatim, it's a good one. As I understand, MCC (or MKM as the case may be) has its own plants in various countries such as Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, Thailand, China, Germany, India, and USA. They adhere to very strict QC regardless. I also understand they do not job out nor press for other brands. So when your Verbatim media IDs out as MCC or MKM (usually RW media), you have a winner, regardless of the country of manufacture. If anyone else can add to or correct me if I'm wrong, then please do.
I know this subject has been talked about to death probably somewhere but I just can't really find an answer so here goes ; I just went out and bought some Sony Made in Taiwan 1X - 16X DVDr+'s. I knew they would not be the TY but am just curiouse an how good they really are.My burner will only burn at 4X succesfully all the time so that is what I burn at.Now , is the difference in the quality of the Made in Tiawan media over the TY (made in Japan) media only if you burn at higher speeds? What is wrong with the Sony 16X MIT media if I only burn it at 4X? Will I get more coasters using this media burning at 4X over buying the hard to find 8X MIJ Sony Media in the long run , burning at any speed? I learned my lesson buying crap media like Office Max brand and Memorex but Sony is a brand name.Is it a brand name (they code out as SONY D 21 ), I can trust over the coded out 8X Sony Ty's? Sony's 8X are now so hard to find (on Sale)is it worth buying the Sony 16X media or should I just give up on Sony all together if I can't find the 8X media and just stock up on my second favorite Verbatim.
GRAIGERR: I have had very good luck with the Sony brand. I have only used 1 cakebox of the 16x but no coasters to report. I prefer Verbatim(MCC) or a TY(FUJI_MAXELL_SONY_[bold]MIJ[/bold]) product but the media you are referring to has done well for me. If they are still on sale, Staples had the 8x MIJ Sony media on sale for $14.94+tax/50 this last week. Good luck on finding the quality stuff. If you have a Sam's in your area you might consider looking there for some quality media. I have found the Sonys and Verbatims at a reasonable price there too. Anyway good luck and burn on. ........C btw nice pic........wow!!!
CRAIGERR: You would be better off quoting actual media codes, rather than relying solely on whether they are made in Japan,or in Taiwan. Some very high quality media comes out of Singapore as well as Japan. In general, media from Taiwan or Hong Kong is quite low quality, and should eb steered clear of. But this does not mean there aren't exceptions. If you could provide the MID code of the Sony media you are talking about, you could get a much better idea of the quality of the discs in question. In order to find out the MID code, download the excellent DVDInfoPro. It is also great for testing the quality of your burns. Grab it from http://www.dvdinfopro.com For more information regarding optical discs and dvd hardware in general, visit the forums at http://www.speedlabs.org (shameless plug...) Regards, AmphetaMarinE
