@greensman hehe it's funny that you should ask that question as i had made a "joke" about it here PRIOR to you actually asking here in this thread~ http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/369633 definitely CMC MAGs on those Magnavox~ LOL have a good one~ docTY
@kivory666, Thanks for the heads up, had my suspicions on the "magnetics". @TY4ever, Don't call them mine, just looking at the "sales" for the weekend and next week. hehehe. Not silly enough to purchase without the proper knowledge. lol. Getting low on the good stuff and trying to find other available sources without clicking to buy for now. My low is like the rest of you @150 Verb's and @175 TY's left on the shelf. LOL. Thanks again to all for the help.. ......c
i bought some maxell's 8x MIJ which i thought would be TY's...i guess i was wrong....D O H!!!!!!!!!!!
@mord I think the Maxell MIJ are made by Hitachi and are therefore a very good disc. Someone with more experience could answer your "question" better than I. Check them with a DVD identifier application and see what they code out as. You may be surprised at their quality. Good luck. Try this thread, it is the Official docTY thread, it is jammed packed with great info on many subjects including "blank DVD media". http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/296925 ...........c
thanks for the "shout out" greensman~ you are right on the money in terms of the Maxell/Hitachi comment~ mord, both the 8x rated Maxells are made by Hitachi in Japan, in the dvd-r, they are the MXLRG03 coded ones and are very good for dvd-r format; and the MAXELL002 for the dvd+r, also VERY good for the dvd+r format~ you can't lose either way, i would have to say that the Hitachi made media under the Maxell brand are right up there with the Taiyo Yudens that many people have come to love~ docTY
No problem kivory666, Just regurgitating what I've read in the forums. Most of it from you and the respected/trusted members. @all--Found the MIJ Maxell (Hitachi) discs at Walgreen's, 25 pack for $8.99. 36 cents each isn't to bad. aabbccdd will argue but some of us may not need 200-500 at a time. LOL. I also looked at the new 16X Sony DVD+R MIJ and they are the SonyD21 id code I think. Help me out here. I forgot to write down the code before I took them back. Was trying to get the 16X DVD+R TY's but didn't. I have read in this forum and the "Official docTY" page that as far as anyone knows they don't exist. Had to check for myself. Hard headed as my wife says. lol. Good day and a Great weedend to all. ..........c
greensman, when did i say everyone needs a large amount of blank media. i didn't say that at all thats what i order is all lol yeah you cant get the DVD+R 16x TY but in the DVD-R format you can, burning DVDs(movies) faster than 8x anyway isn't recommend
I'll throw a bone out for anyone with an urge to opinionate :}. just got a short stack of Maxell labeled, made by prodisc FO2. Haven't seen this one in the pages, nor on the list, even though prodisc is there, just not this coding. Anybody know them?
@cincyrob and whoever is looking for a good deal, I went to O.D. today (West Texas area) and they had the 75 DVD+R's + 25 CD-R's on sale for $14.99. I have purchased the DVD-R in the past and they coded out as FUJIFILM03 but knowing that the O.D. brand is normally RITEK I had to try again. Well this time I bought the other format and they did code out as RITEK-R03-02 write speed 4X, 8X. They do have the DVD-R and DVD+R formats. These are the DVD+R, so I'm guessing that the DVD-R's are the FUJIFILM03 discs. Well at least one of the choices is RITEK. @ Doc or whoever wants to answer, Are these discs (RITEK-R03-02) what you would consider good quality?
Ya can't trust name brands, this is FuJiFilm that a friend picked up. greensman , Ritek is considered mid grade media . alot of members have good luck with them i never did. Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim ONLY for me
Well I don't know what my problem is ! I have a BENQ 1655,I burn with Nero.I've found that some DVD players do not like Verbs.MY Grand Daughters Coby,my sons RCA,will not play Verbs. But all my Ritek & TY's work fine..GO FIGURE !!
that's great advise, Creaky.... I have the same burner (BenQ 1655) and it loves Verbs and TYs and I have no problem with Nero! I would post a thread in the Nero forum with your log and see what's happening there!
I hope I don't start a war here, rick5446, but have you tried Roxio? I've tried both and Roxio has NEVER failed me. Nero has always been iffy. Now Nero's editing and compilation package is top notch. I use it instead of Pinnacle Studio. But the burning has always proven less than stellar to me. Now, consider this: Make sure all of your background processes are stopped. Disconnect from the internet, disable any firewalls, virus protection, etc. Give the entire burning process your full PC power. Am I leaving out anything, anyone? And are you burning + or - ?
