Very helpful, thanks. I'm a little disorganized right now. I have the Pioneer burner (DVR-105) that I've used for years and I have an LG 4167B that I have just sitting because Nero 5.5 doesn't like DL drives. So, this Sunday we have a local computer swapmeet and I'll look for Nero 6.6 or just buy 7.0 at Fry's and install just Burning Rom (that 7.0 is so bloated). Once that happens I'll go to town on those -R verbs and do some benchmarking. I did see the Nero scan thread and somewhere there, there is a link on how to interperet the PIE and PIF outputs. I'll take another look for it and post here for the enjoyment of all.
Playr, I posted the link to one of the sites that gives an interpolation of the PIE and PIF numbers. Hope this sheds some light on the situation. Thanks for that cincyrob! Don't get to involved with these things, we (some of us) just do them for the fun of it. They do mean something but not to be held for anything concrete as far as the media playing or not. It will show you if it's bad but that is no guarantee that it will/won't play. Really just eye-candy if you boil it down. CRC tests and the benchmark test available are more important for DVD backups. Also playing in the stand alone DVD player is very important. lol. That's obvious isn't it. As far as pS2 backups, I haven't done any yet. A friend of mine told me of a new soft-mod method and I need to order that to check it out. That's what I did to my GameCube last year and it saves on discs because I have a 6 & 4 year old. lol. They can scratch a disc just by looking at it. LOL. Let us know how it's going and we're here to help and to learn. .........c
I just got some 16x Sony DVD+R the Disc ID is SONY-D21-00 and the number around the hub is DRP5GG0001 2A. Are these any good? thx
Those are rated as first class media, check out this website for more info. on dvd codes. http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
Glad to see Prodisc back in the running,I have'nt used them for a couple of yrs.Had some really bad incidents with them. But when I first started using them they were great, then they changed their media type. But really price wise can't be beat.Guess I'll give them another Spindle try.I like inexpensive Disc's for my Series programs.Don't really care if they last or not
Ok, thx. Was just wondering 'cause I used to always get YUDEN000T02 before. And i read somewhere that media code SONY was a fake but wasnt sure about the SONYxxx...
I still use Datawrite Optima Blue for XBOX backups. RITEKG05 dye. Despite the scare stories they work fine. I scan every one. I don't look at the score in Nero Speed. PIE no higher than 100. PIF no higher than 4. Simple.
i think that list needs to be updated because there are no 16x media on there such as maxell 16x or tdk 16x
here is a list that might help some with media codes(for noobs in other words): Accu = LEADDATA Americal = RITEKG01, PRINCO, LEADDATA Apple = MXL, MCC Arita = RITEKG03, RICOHJPN Bulkpaq = PRINCO, PRODISC CompUSA = PRINCO, OPTODISC, LD Datawrite = PRINCO, PRODISC, AN31, RITEKG03 DupEZ = PIODATA, LEADDATA Esbuy = RITEK, LEADDATA, other budget IDs Fuji = TAIYOYUDEN, MCC, RICOHJPN, PRODISC, FUJIFILM GQ = PIODATA, PRINCO, RITEKG03, RITEKG02, LEADDATA, LD HP = CMC, RICOHJPN, MCC Imation = RITEKG03, CMC KHypermedia = CMC, TTG01 LiquidVideo = OPTODISC Matrix = MATRIX, LONGTEN, YIJHAN, MUST Maxell = MXL, RITEK, RICOHJPN, TYG01 Memorex = CMC, RICOHJPN, PRODISC, INFODISC Meritline = Various budget IDs Mirror = AN31, ONIDTECH, PRINCO Optodisc = OPTODISC Philips = CMC Pioneer = PVC Princo = PRINCO, Fake TDK Prodisc = PRODISCS03, MCC Ritek = RITEKG01-04, RICOHJPN Samsung = TYG01, BEALL, RITEK Sonic, Shop4tech = LONGTEN, MATRIX, MUST, YIJHAN, various budget IDs Sony = SONYD04, RICOHJPN, MCC Supermedia, Linkyo = Various budget IDs TDK = TDK, RITEKG04, RICOHJPN, MXL, CMC, MCC Verbatim = MCC, CMC, YUDEN, RICOHJPN, RITEKG03
@BIGnewb Hey did you know that some of the WinData's Discs are coding out as mcc-004 now?..I picked some up at microcenter..same code as the verb's..but with no hub stamped the hub is clear..
well many media use mcc codes and they are fake.i went to walmart purchased some retailplus+ dvd (50 spindle for 12 dollars CAD) and they were coded mcc.problem is they are ass fake ass pamela's breasts but appealing just like the price.since mcc is made in taiwan you can always run into fake ones.only ones you cant go wrong with are verbatim mcc.some fakes work and that when you should use them but never buy them again =D hope that gave you some info.
Yes there are numerous fakes out there. That is the main reason that I make the best effort to get the real thing. I order from reputable sources online and go with Name Brand discs when it comes to buying in-store. This doesn't 100% guarantee you will get the genuine thing but it sure gives you a fighting chance. ;-) Personal experience with online media dealers: SMS.com allmediaoutlet.com newegg.com (for media and computer parts) additional rumored "good" online media dealers (what other members have reported) rima.com meritline.com blankmedia.ca (canada) svp.co.uk (uk) This isn't gospel but I have it from reputable members that these are good online stores/dealers. Give them a look and see if you can find something you can't live without as media goes. lol. edit: I didn't mean to mislead anyone on the Brand Name disc thing. lol. Verbatim is about the only thing that I will get at a B&M anymore. Every once in a while I'll buy something on super sale ($12.99 or less/50 pack) for hand outs or the parents. ;-)
@BIGnewb I know what your saying usual..when ..i go to walmart..I pick up the sony sd21 +r's 1x-16x..there not a bad discs for backup reasons..when..i run low on the ty's about to get a discount on them to when the wife start working there..lol @greensman yea you never know what your goin to end up with sometimes..I to like shoppin online for the ty's..I guess that's only place you can get the real thing at like the ty's cause ty's donnt be in stores around here..lol
i disagree that www.rima.com is a good site.its only good for american customers.shipping to canada is (30 dollars) more than the product itself.
if anyone wants more opinions on a certain media check out. www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia they have user experience reviews.
@BIGnewb, So you're saying that www.rima.com is a good site for Americans and not Canadians?? Is it the service, quality of products, or unfair shipping out of country? I don't think that an online store should be condemned because they charge more to ship out of country. I would expect that personally. I think that I included one store for the Canadians. There are many more but I really don't know anything about them except thru a friend or two. If you live in Canada I would try one of the Canadian stores for media and other computer needs so you can save on shipping. HTH's in some way. ;-) ....gm
blankmedia.ca is also pretty big on shipping and are more expensive.taiyo yuden 50 pack for 25 bucks.too much.best site for canadians is www.canadacomputers.com because shipping is 4 dollars.THATS REASONABLE.lol anyways those are recommended sites for the u.s. so if you're from the u.s and a then buy from there.
@BIGnewb, If you want add to the list that I started, please do. As I said I don't have personal experience with Canadian (or anything outside of the US) stores since I live in the states. ;-) As you know people just want a "GOOD" place to purchase media wherever they live. ...gm
I just recieved some DVDs off of eBay (Cowboy BeBop all six discs) and they coded out as BeAll DVD-R 4x (BeAll G40001). I'm giving the guy two days to get back in touch with me.
Pirated movie disks on Ebay???? Yeah call the FBI and see if he gets the treatment they warn you about...
