I use dvdidentifier. On the case of each 25 pack from Sony it says made in Japan. There were others that were there in the fifty pack but those were made in Taiwan. Even the FuJi's had made in Japan andthen there were some of the 25 packs that were made in Taiwan ( inoticed that the ones made in Japan had a light gray bottom case, as the Taiwan's had a black bottom case. The Sony's and FuJi's all code as Yuden000 02's. Someone mentioned about digging deep and that's what I did just kept on looking for those made in Japan. Type in dvdidentider in google search. It's free and works great. I know some use DvdInfo Pro (not free!) but works great as well. MovieDud
n0v0n- if I understand your question you're looking for the program called dvd identifier - dvd decrypter will also give you the id code as well but you probably already knew that! Peace & happy Burning
@n0v0n - just be aware that programs like that can only prove the disc's media code, but cannot prove if the discs are genuine or not, ie the code alone doesn not prove the discs are what they report to be, but just that a disc has a certain (easily faked) media code. for instance TY discs have certain codes around the inner hubs. There are even fake Verbatim out there, but again, the codes around inner hubs are the real proof...
Thanks for all the info. This is getting better by the minute. Soon I get a afterdawn PHD 8>) I will start with the DVDIDENTIFIER. Also, very interesting the info on the black & grey bottoms. I have to go back and re-check. Keep up the good work!!!
n0v0n- whether or not the spindle has a grey or black bottom really isn't a good indicator of whether or not FUJI DVD media will Be Taiwan made or MIJ= Made in japan - In thier 8x dvd-r media it will say made in japan on the label side and also on the paper spindle label near the barcaode! these are more accurate as well as using the id codes Fuji Japan made are Taiyo Yudens and all Taiyo Yusen media is made in Japan Atleast the legit stuff anyway ! thought you'd want to know Peace & Happy Burning!
@Bigtoxy69, I agree my friend, except in my situation I went through every case at the Best Buy and it was strange that the ones with the lighter (grey) bottom were all made in Japan, and the ones with the black bottom were made in Taiwan. I'm not knocking you just clarifying that that was the case with mine. I have burned so far 20 backups using them and they are awe-some. I looked at the same two areas that you mentione dand they were made in Japan. Kind of strange, but the truth. Have a good day! MovieDud
MovieDud- I understand amd no offense taken ! I noiticed the same thing when I first started Buying The FUji /Taiyo yuden DVD media But lately all the MIJ = Made in japan Fuji's I've Bought have had the black bases , but as you have said you were only talking about the situation where you live so that's what true for you and you got the MIj Fuji's/Taiyo Yuden dvd media so you Rock! I was just saying for our Brother & sister Afterdawn memebers that the base color is'nt an absolute thing when looking for MIJ FUJI's that's all ! but as long as you can get the japanese ones it really does'nt matter what color the cakebox/spindle base is right ! Thanx for your polite reply Good luck with your Burns & backups! MovieDud - Peace & Happy Burning
Hi all CMC MAG is no good, and I read that Sony, Naxell, verbatim, and Fuji are good brands, but I see in the list that there is a Verbatim that is CMC MAG. Also, the other good brands have varying Manuf. ID's. How does one work out if the ones in the store are the real mcCoy? And also, what of the other ID's for the good brands, will they be variable in quality also? Im ok to pay more fopr the good ones, bit id be peeved if I got a budget version of a brand name DVD-R
tdale look for the ones that are Made In Japan that would be the Fuji Film and Sony that are DVD plus R and some Maxell .your best bet is to buy Taiyo Yudens online as i do at supermedia store or meritline.com you wont get fakes from either outlet .and there about 34 bucks total a 100
Hey, i saw some dvds at the local tech/comp shop it had no official label ike verbs do, it was a 50 spindle 8x and it said made by ritek japan (i think) the hub code is (not sure if its the exact one as its hard to see from the top of the spindle) i think it had "H-06A03502159691012" , what would this code out as?? I would buy them but $39.95 for discs i dont know what theyd code as is a big risk
Alien thats to much money for thoses Ritek disc you can get a 100 pack for less than that online at supermedia store or meritline
Cool, but i live in australia, which sucks media wise as i can hardly find any media like that, but next time i go to the city i will check in a store there
uhm...Ritek is a TAIWANESE company, there is NO Ritek Japan~ sounds like scam to me alien13, i'd be VERY weary of those...not sounding too good for the info you gave...
Please update MATRIX DVD-R 4X on that list. I bought a set not too long ago, and saw that they're coded TYG02. No wonder they were working so well for me, they're TY's! They're pretty cheap too, I suggest if you can get your hands on them, it would be a good choice if you can't get regular TY's.
LOL, about time i caught onto this thread...i don't check here often as people are just carrying on in their merry ways but, yeah...first of...regarding TYs...those MATRIX brands are DEFINITELY THE FAKE ONES~ if you've had success with them saabdrvr, i wish you ALL the luck in the world as you will need it later down the road... 2ndly, a DEAD giveaway regarding TY discs is the coding that i am VERY familiar with...4x dvd-r "supposedly TYs" will NOT code out as TYG02~! it WILL code out as TYG01s, this is TRUE 100% of the time with Taiyo Yuden discs... example: 4x dvd-r (TYG01) coding, 8x dvd-r (TYG02) coding, 8x dvd+r (YUDEN000T02) coding, 16x dvd-r (TYG03) coding...etc..etc.. also saab...check on the inner hub of your *cough* fake TYs *cough*, if they ARE in fact GENUINE Taiyo Yudens there will be an inner hub coding that starts as follows: GD00xxxx (where GD is the first letters and the xxxx represent the batch number on authentic TY discs), if your discs DO NOT have this inner hub coding, you have just VERIFIED that they are indeed FAKE~! the Matrix i have seen are that shady online retailer shop4tech.com's house brand...MADE IN TAIWAN, another DEAD giveaway with FAKE TYs~ ALL genuine TYs are MADE IN JAPAN~!! PERIOD~! once shady, will always be shady...do i need to elaborate further? you got yourself some FAKES, 100% guaranteed~
