I'm copying VHS tapes for the first time with the Pinnacle Video Transfer (VCR into Pinnacle Video Transfer Box into Flash Disc)to edit with Pinnacle Studio 11 later. At first all I got were codec error messages when trying to play the flash disk on Windows Media Player. I downloaded Haaki Media Splitter and FFDSHOW from this site and got the video to play, but no audio. Then I downloaded AC3Filter, Classic Meida Player and Gspot (which only told me Codec Status was undetermined)but still no audio. Gspot did tell me my Codec is: mp4a:MPEG-4 AAC LC. I don't know what that means but obviously I don't possess anything that can play it.
Go to Start => All programs => FFDSHOW => Audio Decoder Configuration and check that AAC is set (not disabled). Then try MPC again. If that doesn't work, download VLC and use it to open the file - it doesn't use external codecs. http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_players/vlc.cfm
