Hi I'm a newbie here I've been burning dvd's for a while now and everything is pretty much ultra simple thanks to all of the forum discussions on this site. But every now and then when i put a movie in my dvd drive (LG don't remeber model now will post) and try to dvd shrink it both dvd shrink and windows think it's a blank disc or no disc at all. it's really gay cause it's seemingly random i did a firmware update which as far as i can tell didn't help anything. Could it be that i need the drivers from LG? Right now its just the windows XP driver.
    -Thanks

Do you always use the same make of disc? I can't see it being the drivers, as I use the Windows drivers with my LG drive without problem- but it can't do any harm trying them.

I use different makes of dvd-R's but that hasn't given me a problem. It's the original dvd that isn't reading. For example it happened with ATHF Vol-4 Disc-2 and Vol-3 Disc-2 but disc one worked on both volumes.

Are those new DVDs? sometimes you can get a bad press and it won't be recognized by your drive or have trouble reading it. Check for scratchs or fingerprints or dirt that is restricting the drive from reading it properly. Also keep in mind that DVDShrink hasn't been updated for 2 yrs so newer DVDs will have problems with Shrink. Use AnyDVD in the back ground or use RipIt4Me and then Shrink:

Thanx for the quick reply and advice, but it's my whole computer that doesn't read the disc not just shrink. I always eject the dvd and try cleaning it up after pretty much any kind of read error. The bad press concept is interesting but all of the dvd's my pc won't read my friends will. (I have a HP Pavillion with aftermarket LG drive, dude he's got a Dell that came with his dvd burner could the aftermarketness effect anything?)
PS- I don't really like paying for programs, I've got DVD Decrypter, and DVD Fab (trials piss me off)
