    Hi

I have this problem thats just occured. when trying to back up a cd, no matter which of either of my drives I use a message appears telling me there is no disc in the drive???? I assumed it was crap discs so went off and bought a different brand, same thing. I have deleted both drives and reistalled them to no avail.
    any ideas ?

Right update the Phillips and I meant what version is the freecoms firmware?

So what version is the firmware on your freecom?

Also, did that fix the problem on the Phillips?

    Seamus

(edit) Ive just realised that nero info kit is reading the drive as RW8J9

just passing thru; thread teleported to Nero forum.

sounds like it's the very old Nero 6.0.0.0 that can't recognise your burners..

    Sorry guys.
just got around to reading the responses, I have upgraded to NERO 7 premium no change should I try a different brand of disc???? NERO works alright DVD wise on both drives but on the Freecom it wont do the CDs, it used to, so I dont know whats happened. The Freecoms a lot faster, hence the reason I would like it running as it should.

    Thanks
    Seamus

Hmm, I'm a bit stumped with the freecom. Have you tried it in another USB port?

I know that this is becoming a pain in the a**e, I tried the other 3 ports on my pc but a message told me that it would work better was it plugged into a usb 2 port. I know it is because it only takes 14 mins to back up a DVD, in another port it would take at least 2 hours.I just want to fire it out the window now.

Have you tried cleaning it's laser with a cotton bud and some rubbing alcohol?

Sorry guys for not getting back sooner, I opened up the case to try and clean the lazer, and lo and behold written inside, make and model of my burner is Lite-on sohw-832s.
