I recently built a custom intel socket 775 PC,When i fire it up i get no display, the green motherboard light comes on and the processor fan runs, but it's hard to troubleshoot with no display.

    (Intel D955XBKLKR Socket 775 Motherboard)
    (Intel Pentium D 820 2.8gGHz DT 800FSB Socket 775)
    (Corsair Value Select 1024MB PC4200 DDR2 533MHz x2)
    (Ultra 600w X-Finity Power Supply w/2 80mm / Black)
(Thermaltake Silent 775 CPU Cooler for Prescott)
    (XFX GeForce 6600LE 256MB PCIe w/DVI/TV-OUT)

I did notice the video card has a 4 pin molex connector on it.

no beeps, have'nt tried booting with drives attached yet, i plugged a standard 4 pin molex adapter into the video card and still no display.

Do some video cards require external power source to work?

i found a 4 pin to 6 pin adapter for the card but im still waiting for it to arrive, If that doesnt work i will start replacing components i guess.

you do need the right power connector for the pci or agp card. If the card is not connected to the psu it wont fire up. Only certain cards are set up to not run off the psu, but obviously yours require it.

Btw....the psu your using should have the pci power connector built right into it. My antec had it.....so if its there you wont need the adapter.

I dont know what the deal is with this video card, it has the 4 pin molex connector on it so i should just be able to plug it in to a standard cd rom /HDD power source , i tried that it also did not work.- (My PSU has 2 6 pin connectors for video card)-Motherboard also has a 4 pin molex input for GFX card (so i need a cable with 2 female 4 pin connectors on it i guess.

Your symptoms may point to a problem with the processor, I would remove it, check that the pins are all straight then reseat it.
    Good Luck

The other thing to check is the power input to the processor. If your board has got the eight pin connector (2 x 4) between the processor and the back panel, this must be connected.

I've got the 8 pin connector hooked up,as far as pins being bent the processor is pinless, they say if you bend pins on a socket 775 MOBO there is no straightening them out, maybe i should try a new motherboard?

disconnect all cards, ram & cables except for a working video card, a stick of ram & power cable(s), reseat those. remove all cables from drives. check that the cmos jumper is in normal position not clear position. try another psu.

I have tried using 2 different PS Units one stick of ram one video card, the motherboard doesnt even beep, i dont even think its actually booting.Well at least i have'nt had any smoke or sparks yet thats a good sign.(Taking a break for now,I have a bad feeling that ive bent pins on the processor socket) will post when i know more.(I Also reseated processor it was installed properly as far as i can tell, i would need a magnifying glass to actually determine if pins are bent on the motherboard.

Problem solved, the motherboard and video card both required a 4 pin molex from PSU - No where in the video card documentation does it say anything about hooking the card up to power though.

I learned from it - I built a second socket 478 system before this build and i expected the pc to have no sound.
