    Hello,

Have a pc (e6400 2gb ram, gigabyte 965-p mboard) that was working fine then when someone switched it on the other day and there was no display. I have tested the monitor which is fine. At first I thought it was the video card (pci-e 7600gt) since there was no display but now I'm not so sure because the cd drive light just flashes constantly, usually it flashes a couple of times when booting then stops.

All fans and everything seem to be working fine inside. I've reset the cmos, still the same. I also wanted to test whether it was reaching windows or not so I turned the speakers up and pressed windows key+U which should bring up the accessibility utility with the narrator on, basically you should hear the narrator but I heard nothing. I also did windows key+R for run and then entered a bad command which should play the windows exclaimation sound, it didn't. This all leads me to believe it's not getting to windows at all and may not be a display issue.

There are no beeps from the board at start up. The video card only has dvi outs and is attached to the vga monitor via a dvi-vga adapter.

    Thanks

Ok, really should have tried this before but I just took the main power out of the board and put it back in and hey presto, it seems to be ok now.

    Sorry for wasting a thread!

Am interested in understanding why this happened though and why removing and replacing power sorted it. Anyone know?

you might still have a problem as will likely do the same thing next time it is turned off.

Hmm... From what i read it sounds like the motherboard is giving up.

No beeps, No display, No sound, Not good.

This may sound silly but it will help to know.

When you plugged the power back in did the computer boot up straight away or did you have to press the power button?

Aslo if you have another computer try your graaphics and sound card in that machine and test them. (But i am pretty sure they will work)

And try different graphics and sound cards in your current machine.
(If you are having this problem still with nothing working then im sure the cards wont either.)

I believe its down to the motherboard and like ddp says this problem may occur each time you turn the computer on and off again.

What motherboard is it, i have know Gigabyte 8X to of had these problems before.

Sorry, just read your post again and realise you have stated what the motherboard is.

But as i said before Gigabyte have had this problem before, so i would say your looking into gettin a new motherboard.
