no need to down grade PSP fat to load 3.80 m33-2?

I had read somewhere that updating to 3.80 M33 cfw had in it a coding that would mean you would not need to go back and downgrade. Then install past M33 cfw's.
I was lead to believe then that since this would be the definitive version M33. Would i even need to do the whole downgrade, then load 3.52 M33, then 3.71 M33 and so on?

Or was what I read not true?

My buddy is dying for me to walk him through this. (i suggested not doing that) but i live across the country from him...and he really wants CFW on his PSP fat with oefw 3.60. I want him to chill and wait till i come to visit in the spring, so I can/and know how do it) but he insists on doing it now over the phone. If it can't be done with out downgrading and all the previous CFW's being loaded...that's cool...it gets me off the hook for now.

 

3.60 is for slims only. so he either has a slim with 3.60 or a fat with 3.51+.

no, it's not possible to upgrade straight to 3.80 m33. you need to use pandora's battery and universal unbricker v3 memory stick to get 3.71 m33-2. from there, you can then upgrade to 3.80 m33.

custom firmware can only be installed from 1.50 or from pandora's battery/magic memory stick. only way to update straight is if the custom firmware is digitally signed by sony.

 

If it is a PSP-100x (Phat) running 3.60 official Firmware, then the only way to install 3.80 M33-2, would be to create Despertar del Cementero v3. It is fairly easy to do. Follow this link. It will tell you how to hardmod a battery and create the memory stick. It will take you from 3.60 -> 3.71 M33-2. From there you can go directly to 3.80 M33. Don't forget update #2 as well.
