My dad just gave me a SONY laptop. Before he gave it to me he erased some of the "stuff" on it. When I got it home and turned it on the screen is black and says "No operating system found." I put in the system restore CD and it goes through a set up and says something about erasing partitions on DOS before I continue. All it will do is keep restarting the computer. I put the windows 2000 CD in and it goes through a set up mode and says after a while. NO HARD DRIVE FOUND. Does any body have any idea what I can do. I would be so grateful. There is no disk in the A drive.
hi, first thing you need to do is go into the 'BIOS' to redetect your hard drive. there should (if you keep your eyes peeled) be a prompt to press F12 or similar when you first boot up the laptop, that will take you into the BIOS. just navigate thru the options until you find the redetect setting , usually near the beginning of the options. click whatever's needed to save the changes to the BIOS then it will reboot and you can pop the CD in and let it do the partitioning stuff.... ...presuming you don't want to reinstall Windows again that is..... ..gotta go into a meeting now, hope that makes sense for a start....
