I have been looking for ages of a way to watch Avi files on my computer..(yea i know it should do already).I have tried all the latest codecs and updating i can but still with no joy. Also i have tried to turn the Avi files into Vcd with Nero 5.5.9.9(latest again)and all it does is crash to desktop.I can load and burn Mpeg files to disc with no problems at all.
1.)Is there anyway i can watch Avi files on my computer without having to buy a new Video card?
2.)Is there a way to convert Avi files to Mpeg(looked on this site and all i see is Mpeg to Vcd/DVD

I use Win ME..128 meg ram..1.3gig P4..NVidia TNT 32..all the latest codecs and updates

Help would be grateful as i think i am at the end of the line if i can't get no help here

If they're downloaded avi files, sometimes you can use Intervideo WinDVD. If you still can't (if you get a windows media icon and hear audio), its time to process the movie.

Download VirtualDub. Open your avi file in it. Click Video and select full processing mode, click audio and select direct stream copy. Click audio again and then compression. The options are on the left. Click the blank option and click ok.

Click File and Save Avi. This file will be big but the avi file should now play.
