...except I installed Nero from a retail disk and I had most of my help files in the original installation. Updating to Nero 7.0.8.2 wiped out my help files. Now I don't know how to restore them.

    Any ideas?

Nero doesn't seem very good about support. I emailed them using their support form on their web page about the playback problem I have been having with Nero Vision 4 (as soon as I split a clip the video footage will not play all the way...it stops at the beginning of the second section) and I haven't gotten any response. (I'm getting desperate on this one.)

I am grateful for this forum although it seems so heavily trafficed that a question disappears off the first page within several hours and may not get answered at all.

The help files for Nero 7 can be downloaded from the Nero 7 suppport area. It has been a while, but I seem to remember just going to the download page and selecting the Help Files for each program area. They also have PDF versions for each area. They're all there, you just have to look around a bit.

Can't help you with Nero Vision 4. I use the Cyberlink programs for capture and editing.

    Mike,

Thank you for taking the time to respond.

Yes, I know that you can download the help files in pdf format. Even in .chm format--whatever that is...but helpfiles are usually integrated with the program so that clicking on "help" from within Nero will bring them up. Just downloading a pdf won't do that...Nero doesn't have any way of knowing that you downloaded them nor even where they are on your hard drive.

I have a suspicion that the .chm files are the ones I want but just like my problem with Nero Vision, there are no instructions on how to handle them to integrate them with Nero.

Again, no matter how good a program Nero is (and it [bold]is [/bold] my choice), the help files and technical support are so minimal as to be virtually non-existent, in my opinion.

Hi There - I can help you on theis to some level but ave questions myself in another thread I started hereabout inconsistencies in Version 7. That is, there seem to be a few help files but no matching applications folders.

To now I have gone to http://www.nero.com/nero7/eng/User_Guides.html and downloaded the .chm files to a temp folder I set up on my desktop.
I have then opened up the Nero 7 program directory (C:\program Files\Nero\Nero 7) and opened each of the individual folders. In doing so I note the name of the help file place holder (.chm file) and rename the one in the temp folder on the Desktop to the same. I then just simply overwrite the file in the program directory by dragging and dropping from the desktop version.

    Hope this helps.....

Still looking for answers on BurningRom help file (since there apparently is no burning rom directory installed), on NeroVision and NeroExpress. Have 2 Help files yet in the NeroVision Folder there is only a file called NeroVisionExpress_en.chm or similar. If you have the premim version (latest download) you'll see what I mean. It looks like they've split the help files - yet there's only one folder called NeroVision. However there are 2 individual apps called NeroVision an NeroExpress in startsmart menus. Framkly, I'm baffled by this and not at all surprisegiven Neros total lack of both loic and consistenct on everything related to this product. For the time being your guess is as good as mine

Correct, the [Nero7_chm_eng.exe] files are the ones. If you just click on the file after you download the package, they SELF INSTALL into the proper folders. It's very simple. The PDF files are for printing out hard copy of the files. They really are a very handy reference.

I agree on the lack of support. Even if they DO respond to your questions, they very seldom have any advice which addresses you problem. I have been down that road as well. By trial and error I usually managed to figure out what needed to be done by myself.

Use this link http://www.nero.com/nero7/eng/all_userguides.html and save to desktop.

After saving the download to your desktop before running do this:
Right-click the CHM file, and then click Properties.
    Click Unblock.
Double-click the .chm file to open the file.

You got the wrong files. The ones you want end in .exe and they DO self install. If you download the individual files, you have to do it by hand, one at a time, but there IS a single file that does the job for you..

Just go to the Download area in Nero 7, pretend that you are going to upgrade your system to the latest version. Go down to the bottom of that download screen and there you will find the HELP FILES download button. click on that and you will get to the Self Installing .exe files.

Nero does NOT make it easy to find those files. Unless you are actually downloading their entire program you will miss the link.

Yeah, Discovered this by chance a few hours ago and posted comment to other thread.

Must have misread your post. Did you notice also the difference in file sizes between those in the .exe bundle and the individual downloads?

    Curious, eh?

    Cheers
