Regardless of firmware you should still find channels on a scan

Are you setting the aerial up yourself?
are you doing a manual scan or automatic?
Whats the spec on your down converter?

have a flick through this thread, if its your own aerial you wont find anything on an automatic scan

Old or new firmware should still find all chanells on a scan, but only may display freeview ones if not the latest firmware for unit to update codes.
If you connected downconverter side of powersupply at any stage to box by mistake, it could have blown the tuner in the box.
If sure you didnt do this, ariel pointing in gereral line of sight to transmitter shoul work if downconverter is in correct polarization(Horizontal or Vertical) main mast=H, beam bender = vertical.
Also check all F-connections that outer core of co-axial cable is not coming into contact with inner core.
If all these checks dont work, sounds like your tuner is goosed!
    Best of luck!
