I am capturing video on a tuner card, outputting from my vid card DVI to hdmi to my tv. Killer pic but no sound. I thought HDMI carried the sound too. I tried thinking of a solution myself but am coming up short. I have a sound card that has dig. opt. out but my TV has no input, just an output. Any suggestions?

HDMI does carry audio, but how would your GC get audio!!

many new graphics cards today have a internal port on them to accept audio from your onboard or audio card. so the entire signal is sent from one external port.

taken from a abit IP35 review: "inclusion of an HDMI audio jumper is a real plus and those users who install a HDMI enabled graphics card will really benefit from this, its just a shame that Abit have not opted for the higher specification audio chipsets which are available."

    From about.com:

The cable advantages of HDMI become even more pronounced over DVI because HDMI also carries digital audio. With most home computers using at least one and possible up to three mini-jack cables to run audio from it to the speakers, the HDMI cable simplifies the number of cables require to carry the audio signal to the monitor. For PCs, the hardware must be designed with some sort of pass-through connector to run the audio signal from the audio processor to the graphics card to combine the digital video and audio into a single stream.

Well thanks for the reply. I will have to see if I am able to do that with my vid card. I highly doubt it because its just an old 6600 I had lying around. A friend told me today that I can use the output from my sound card to the component audio to my tv. I do have sound atm with optical to my stereo receiver but would prefer to have sound through the TV and choose to use my receiver for surround when wanted.

a 6600 won't be able to use HDMI audio. Do what your friend suggests, it should work fine.
