I recently hooked up an old JVC rx-778v surround sound system to my ps3 via optical. I'm going through my library playing some old games and I discovered that i get no audio what so ever from NHL 08. all the menus and the actual game play is totally silent. I tried every setting on the ps3 as well as my receiver but i cannot get sound, other games & blu-rays function perfectly. Any Suggestions?
Is your PS3 hooked up with HDMI video cable? When I hooked mine up I had to change the settings to make sure sound was coming through the Optical and not the HDMI. Check the sound settings if you haven't already. Is that the only game you have tested? Maybe try changing the sound settings on the receiver.
I am connected via HDMI, i changed the audio settings to Optical through the xmb. I get sound from all other games, blu-rays, and mp3s. It seems that it is only one game in particular. I've watched several Blu-Rays with surround sound no problem. When launching NHL 08 i get zero sound. I had to switch my sound back to HDMI to play the game through the tv. I wanted to know if there is something i can do or the game doesnt support the sound setup? Not sure why it is only one game? Thanks in advance
my PS3 recently got reset and now it doesnt play audio through my speakers, just through the TV. I have a pioneer elite receiver and have all the HDMI cables set up properly. pre-ps3 reset i was able to play sound and video through the receiver, but now it only plays video through the receiver. anyone one else have this problem? if so could you give me some advice? thanks
Nobody ever answered the main question here.. I really need some help.. ive been searching like crazy on how to get sound using the optical cables on my ps3... like pitpens said, i can hear sound on the xmb menu, movies, and music... but if i try to load ANY ps3 game i have... no sound comes out.. I have my ps3 hooked up via hdmi, and optical cable.. somebody have any ideas how to fix this? thanks.
IIf its just one game in particular I bet under your audio settings you have chosen a audio out setting that the game doesnt support. Like say the game only supports 5.1 but you have 7.1 selected under audio settings. Thats all I can think of.
