All of my AVI files play fine but this new one I have. It has no sound in WMP. I'd like to think that it's just a bad file but I wanted to find out first, are there any codecs I might be missing that would effect audio? I have DivX installed for video.
Download the great tool Gspot. Open the file with it and it will tell you what the file uses, and what you have on your system.
That's right I forgot about that! I used to use it!..I ran the video file through GSpot and all I saw was a reference to DivX, which I have installed. SO maybe i just got a bad file???
Divx tells you about the video codec, how about the audio? Some will have an mp3 track, many will have AC3. Do you have an AC3 filter installed, or FFDShow? Try playing the file using VLC.
That's a good idea about VLC, a few avi will not play, here, in WMP but are fine in VLC or even Media Player Classic (MPC).
Luckily I found another copy of that file and the audio did work on that, but I did not remember seeing any references to anything other than DivX. So is FFDShow and AC-3 a good thing to have installed anyway? It can't hurt anything to have it on right? Also what is your opinion of CyberLink PowerDVD as a default video player? WMP acts up on me every now and then and I'd love to replace it. I've tried VLC and it's ok, in my opinion...The KM Player I liked too.
Recent builds of FFDshow include ac3. NO need to install AC3filter also. I use Powerdvd version 5 - I love it. Not sure about recent versions. You could always trial it.
