Sorry about my last thread, i messed up, DOH ! Right let me start again......... I recently bought a Compaq Presario CQ60-311SA Notebook Laptop. It had Vista Basic 32-bit service pack 1 already installed but i did'nt want this operating system so i uninstalled it and installed XP Home. I found that a lot of the systems drivers where now missing but managed to get most them back and installed. But now i have no sound and when i go into devise manager there is a yellow question mark with a further exclamation mark inside that next to PCI devise. Under devise status i get this message 'The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)' but when i try and reinstall or update the driver it just ask me for the cd to install it which i hav'nt got. Can someone please help me on this matter ? Thanx.
Some newer laptops do not have drivers for Windows XP. Did you check this before you downgraded? If there is no driver available from the laptop manufacturer, you might be able to poke around and get a reference driver fromthe chipset maker, if you can determine who it is and what the chipset is. If there is no reference driver then you're SOL.
Thanx mate,i've searched around and managed to get a driver. Got sound now and everything is fine. Thanx for your help anyway.
