    Start with the simple stuff.

    1. Did you ever have sound or did this just start happening?

Once you can answer that question some meaningful troubleshooting can begin.

Yeah i had sound before. I had to reinstall windows xp tho cos it kept bringing up genuine validation. So i reinstalled it and put the necessary drivers i needed in. The volume control is showing in the bottom right hand corner. Ive clicked on it and tryed to adjust volume. It shows master volume, wave, line, front, rear, side, center, ive noticed tho were it says mute it dnt give me the option to tick the mute on front and rear

OK, looking at your subject, it says "no sound while playing songs".

Do you mean that you have no sound just while playing songs or no sound at all?

If it's no sound while playing songs, what are you playing? MP3 files, DVD audio, CDs?

make sure you've selected the correct output device to be your inbuilt motherboard sound.

In the corner of your screen (you may need to click an arrow to show all the icons) there should be the realtek HD audio icon:
If you do not see this, go
    Start
    Run

    and type

    rthdcpl

and hit enter. The icon should now appear. If you get an error saying the file does not exist, you need to reinstall the sound driver.

Double click the icon and go to the Audio I/O tab. Unplug your speakers/headphones from your PC then plug them in. A box should appear asking you what you plugged in. Select it and hit ok. Check for sound again, and post back.
