You did not select the subtitles in the audio section when you backed up the movie. If you don't select, you don't get....

There are five different subtitle options for Syriana. You only really need 1 or 2 of them. The 5MB English subtitle option gives you English subtitles throughout the entire movie. The 0.96MB English subtitle option only gives you English subtitles when they're speaking in languages other than English. The rest are French and Spanish subtitle options, which you really don't need unless you feel like watching the movie that way.

i had this same problem with this movie, and also another newer relaeased movie called "end of the spear". do you know how to get the subtitles in this movie when they are not speaking in english. how do you know which subtitle you need to keep? do you just have to watch in the preview window or how?

I've copied it twice with DVD Shrink, re-author method. The first time I did not copy any subtitles, as usual, and the subtitles did not appear at all when the characters were speaking Arabic. On the original disk, the subtitled appeared automatically when actors were speaking in a foriegn language. The second time I copied the English subtitles and I can either get subtitles all the time or none of the time, but not just when characters are speaking Arabic. Someone above mentioned another .96MB English subtitle option, but I do not recall seeing that when I copied it. I'll look again.

When I backed up this movie, I chose the smaller of the English subtitles. Then I used PgcEdit to change the attribute of that sub to FORCED so that even when subs are turned off. these will appear.

You're right! It really was a waste of time. Probably won't watch it again. You know, the movie industry keeps complaining about lost revenue, but they keep putting out garbage.

I checked again, and using DVD Shrink, ver 3.2, there is not 2nd English option for subtitles. There are, however, 2 French options; one is 4MB and the other is 1MB. Using what program did someone find the 2nd, .96 MG English subtitle option?

I also had same problem with this lousey movie using Dvd shrink and then just for kicks ran it through Clone DVD2 and subtitles did not show up in preview so I cut it off. They don't say anything in arabic that's worth while but wanted to beat this problem. Any body figure it out yet?

I had to copy it with the English subtitles and turn them on and off as needed. Kind of a pain, but you need to know what is being said in Arabic to understand what is going on.
