I am trying to convert an .avi movie to MPEG format for burning as VCD. The problem is, when TMPG encodes is and then I play it using the program, on sound is there, there is no video. First I thought that there was no problem and that the video would appear once i burned it, but no so. I chose Audio and Video for the output stream. Why am I not getting the video portion encoded?

This is a typical problem with many AVI video streams, but I can offer you a simple solution. Many Avi's are composed of many differrent audio and video codecs and some of those codecs don't even come standard on PC programs or even demo downloads. The reason why you have no video is because there is a video codec missing in order to play the video file. The is a program that you can download on Kazaa called ACEMCP! This program has every codec known to the world of PC audio and video. I assure you that once it is installed it will have the codec for 99% of your AVI video and audio files. The best thing is that you dont even have to edit nor alter the AVI files in any way. There is one downfall to this program though. When you go to burn any MPEG files the divxG400 codec tends to get in the way and it will not allow you to burn VCDs. The solution for this is simple. Just go to the Control Panel and uninstall the program from Add & Remove programs option. This program can be reinstalled at anytime for future use. For a simple reinstall just go to Start Menu, Programs, Ace Mega Codecs Pack, and Reinstall the Ace Mega Codecs Pack!

Let me know how it turns out and good luck!

Regardless of whether they would be divx codecs or not I have had Avi files and have also converted Avi files without the Divx format. Even with the Divx codec some Avi files cannot be viewed and some audio files cant be heard or decompressed without certain codecs. It doesn't matter whether If you refer to downloading Divx codecs..it's a proven fact that NOT ALL people use Divx codecs to view or listen to AVI files. THis codecs package is yet overall the ultimate Divx package and it can be downloaded at www.divx-digest.com/software/acemega_codec.html ! So before anyone thinks that I don't know what Im talking about...do the math, check out the site and check your shit. It's all there in this codec package in which it can also be downloaded on Kazaa as well!
