i just bought a new laptop and no virus protection came with it.
is avg still free or can someone advise what they are comfortable using on vista.
I've used norton on my other pc's and they were free.

avg 8.0 is still free and works great on my computer.

Make sure you have the following install on your computer. Especially since it is new and hasn't been attacked yet.

    1. inbound/outbound firewall
    2. antivirus
    3. firefox 3.0 browser (don't use internet explorer it attracts all the spyware).
    4. use the free "returnil" whenever you surf the internet (it seperates your hard drive from the internet)

Using returnil (which doesn't slow down your computer) it's better than using a bloated antispyware program.

The above programs is all I use and it keeps my computer free from spyware/viruses and it's all free.
