I have a NEC 1300A with the last firmware update (1.08), I have just updated my ASPI layer and I am using Windows XP (updated too).... Everythink is fine !
    The problem:
I can read and burn CD´s on it (all CD´s brand) but it´s not reading DVD´s. It recognizes blank DVD´s (Fujifilm DVD-R and TDK DVD+R) but I tried to burn a Fujifilm DVD-R (2x) and it shows me the "power calibration area error" and with TDK DVD+R burning in 4x it gaves me the same error, but when tryiong to burn DVD+R with 2,4x (the other option) it BURNS !!
After I tried to burn a DVD+RW, but it not recognizes it (This was the first DVD that I have burned with ND-1300A, after this I´m having this problem), now I ask the following question:
    "How can I read and burn any CD´s and not read DVD´s, but burn only TDK´s DVD+R (2,4x) and not TDK´s DVD+R on 4x and Fuji´s DVD-R on 2x ? "
Ps.: It´s recognizing all this blank DVD !
Please give me a solution !

Ah the old power calibration error. Burning CDs is not the same as burning DVD. The combination of burner - its firmware - and the media used determines success or coasters. Firmware is the directions to tell the burner how to burn the media. Most DVD burners need constant firmware upgrades to adjust for the media available. You need a program such as DVDInfoPro to correctly determine the manufacturer of the media and the speed it can burn at. The brand is not the manufacturer. Brands are known to use different manufacturers for their media line cd's, cdrw, DVD - R , DVD + R, etc.
You also need to confirm with the burner manufacturer which media is supported by the firmware.
For a media guide see http://dvdrhelp.com/dvdmedia
    I hope this helps
