I think Greywolf will say we may need the network code first. :)

XE mobile operates on the cingular network. So do you think the network code is the same?

    XE Mobile owners.
    Please do this:

Select Menu > Settings > Phone and from the following options:

Operator selection > Automatic — to set the phone automatically to select one of
the cellular networks available in your area. With Manual, you can select a
network that has a roaming agreement with your home network operator.

    [bold]Select Manual[/bold]

Tell me all that you see on the screen then cancel the selection.
    Leave your Phone in Automatic.

Hello, when I go through all the steps, the
Operator selection > Automatic option does not come up.

It does not give a option to select either.
does the sim card have to have some balance ? the sim card I inserted to get to the menu is empty ( no money paid )

I go like " Select Menu > Settings > Phone", but there's no operator selection on my phone. I think I know you mean selecting carrier provider or networks something, rite? but I didn't see anything like that there! :)

the sim card disables the operator selection in the xe phones though this is possible when you insert the sim in unlocked phones. When chosen manual it reads "xe mobile" and "other network", when they actually mean cingular and t mobile. I wonder how they can do that!
Anyway to unlock xe phones you need the network code which is currently a closely gaurded secret i guess. even the ebay unlockers cant do it now, remotely, using software. but i think some one will break it soon.

I saw the troubleshooting guide on the XE manual:
    1. My phone displays" SIM blocked" and "Enter PIN code". What's the problem?
Ans: Your phone security has been turned off by default. You'll need to enter your initial PIN, which is 1111.
    2. My phone is asking me to "Enter PUK Code".
Ans: If you happened to enter your PIN incorrectly three times over, your phone will lock & request a PUK code. Please call Customer Care at 187799GETXE and request your PUK Code.
    3. Phone screen reads " Emergency calls only".
Ans: If you entered an incorrect PUK code five times, your phone will lock and continue to work only in Emergency mode. This is a precaution to safeguard you against theft and requires that you replace your SIM card.
    4. My phone isn't working properly
Ans: Give s a call and tell us what's wrong. Your phone has a 30day return policy and a 60-way warranty. It you're within either of these options, well help you replace it with no charge.

From the troubleshooting cases aboved, do you guys get any idea about it? If I want to ask help from customer cares, what code I am suppposed to ask? Is the PUK code or PIN?

    Thanks for everyone's time!

Its unable to unlock XE mobile because nobody knows the MNC code for this network, if you could call your operator and ask them for the MNC code and post it here thats great. The MCC is 310 but we need the next 3 digits ( MNC ), thanks.

I use the Xe sim card at my regular phone (I am using T-mobile at west coast, which is sharing Cingular network, too), it functionning normal. The regular network code I am using is "310 17". I was not sure that if that's helping anyting.
