Nokia d-box CN - no longer getting channels

Hello.
My d-box is no longer showing any Virgin Media cable channels. I have no idea what version or type I have or anything as I don't know anything about this sort of thing!! Please help! Someone told me I may need to update my software but I have no clue as to how to do this.
I'm a technophobe so please keep any response simple (it's taken me an hour just to sign up and type this!).
Any help greatly appreciated.
