Ok so i wanna start recording sutff on my tv and am a complete noob and don't know where to start. My TV is pretty close to my computer, so I guess that's a good thing.

I was thinking about buying this -

It's cheap, and it does the job, I think. I also know my PC has an open PCI slot.

If anyone could guide me through all this, whats best to buy and how to setup, and basically how everything works. If someone could actually show me a guide to capturing video on your TV with your computer for beginners, that would be nice too.

Also is it possible to also take pictures with a capture card?

the page where your link goes has an error.

But I recommend you get the pvr150 (cost about 70.00,the oem whitebox are even cheaper), thats a solid inexpensive PCI tuner card. The number one strength is that it has a built-in hardware mpeg encoder. The tuner card does all the work when recording video, the cpu only has to write to the hard drive. I have 3 of them installed in my computer, which allows me to record 3 different shows at one time. Even when recording 3 shows, I can also surf the internet, listen to mp3's, watch a DVD movie without slowing down the computer.

As far as software, try the demo of beyondTV it costs 70.00 (one time fee) but it has an excellent tv guide, and the program is very TIVO like. The demo is full featured and you will get to test it out to it's full capabiltys.
