Hello 1st post here, please move if not in the right place I have just purchased a win2000 xp expert capture card, and I was wondering if this card is capable of capturing off of my DTV. Right now i have cable hooked up to it and the quality is really bad to DTV. Im new to this so im not really sure how to go about making it work with DTV, or if my card is even capable of doing this. TIA Kevin
What is DTV??? Do you mean Digital Cable??? You should be able to Capture it by going from the Output from the Digital Cable Box into your Capture Cards Inputs, I know it works were I live...There are Capture Cards that are Specificly for Captureing Digital Cable....
Ohh Direct TV..I believe Direct TV is Transmited From a Satalite useing Mpeg2 Transport Streams and can not be Properly Captured useing a Regular TV Card..You would Probably need a Satalite Card that Captures the actual Transport Stream to your Hard drive so there is No Quality Loss but these Card are fairly expensive, well quite a Bit more than a TV Card....
Mine records HDTV,DTV, and regular cable. Its a HIpix DTV-200. It's about 300 to 400 bucks though.. Made by Telemann. Not to much more expensive than a regular TV card Matt
$300 to $400 is a Lot more than a Regular Tv Card, Most Modern TV Cards Will Run you $30 to $70 so it is 5 to 10 times as Much as a regular TV Card....
Well Take a Look on E-bay for a Satalite Card I have seen them for about $150 to $200, that Might be your Best Bet....
What about this wintvD: http://www.directron.com/wintvd.htm More on it here: http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/html/wintv-d.pdf Doesn't that decode from a satellite? If not, then please pardon my interruption.
As long as it's not a HDTV unit there shouldn't be any problem. It should have A/V outputs so you can connect it directly to the capture card. You could also split the antenna connection for the TV and get it to the card that way. I capture from my Dish Network receiver several times a week and I get great quality. Minion's right that it would be better to be able to capture the actual data stream from the dish, but the receiver should give you a great signal.
I don't know. I paid nothing for the computer. It came with the capture card. And I get captures that so far nobody has been able distinguish from the original signal. ;D
What brand of TV do you have? The only 65" I've seen is a friend's Sony and the only TV that looks really good on it is HD. BTW, I agree. If you're going to be capturing from a satellite for viewing on an HDTV you should spend the money and capture the stream.
I have a Mitsubishi.. It's an ok TV I guess.. It gets the job done. It has a built in HDTV tuner. I also have a Antenna so I get all the free HDTV broadcasts in my area.. And the card I have allows me to record HDTV,DTV and regular cable plus the 5.1 audio and all.. My friend has a card he bought at best buy and brought over some stuff he recorded. Just didn't look that great on my set.. Could have been something he setup wrong I dont know. Maybe the compression the card used or something? I wasn't knocking anyones stuff just speaking from my experiences.. take it easy Matt
No offense taken I was just curious. Plus I haven't gotten an HDTV yet so I'm always interested in other people's experiences. My tv captures are done with a card that came with a Sony Vaio and it uses a hardware encoder they make for standalone PVRs in Japan. It gives me excellent quality, but I haven't gotten a chance to look at the results on my friend's HDTV yet. I expect the film captures should look pretty good since I always IVTC them, but I doubt the video clips will look that great.
