norton internet security 2005 / 2006 install/uninstall

    Hi all,
    I have a slight problem on my laptop. I stupidly just bought the download of norton internet security 2006 to replace my 2005 version.
    Unfortunately, I can't seem to get rid of the 2005 edition.
    Error 1402 keeps popping up - Could not open key.
    I've tried Norton's repair tool (error message - doesn't support av2005), I've reset the registry keys, and recreated the quarantine/incoming/etc folders. Also tried just using add/remove programs but that also doesn't work.
    I would really appreciate any help or useful suggestions,
