Hi - Norton reports 4 backdoor trojans that it cannot resolve. I was not aware of them and they are all from January 09; i found them in the unresolved security folder within norton, it advises to do a quick scan to resolve, which i have done but this changes nothing. So i have - Run a full system scan, with system restore disabled (as advised by the symnatec website) - Nothing found (trojans) Run Free avast virus checker - Nothing found. Run Spybot S&D - Nothing found. I have cleared all temp files etc and still nothing. Could someone with more knowledge than me, take a look at my hijackthis log and see if anything needs to go or be changed. I have tried everything my knowledge extends to and google is sending mee in circles with tons of checkers requiring XXXX I have not seen any adverse effects apart from slow down at certain periods, but then that could happen on busy times anyway (i think). What are they doing and how can i find and destroy them? Thank you if you can help ------- Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 09:39:45, on 17/04/2009 Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP3 (6.00.2900.5512) Boot mode: Normal Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSvcHst.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\AppCore\AppSvc32.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\Program Files\Symantec\LiveUpdate\ALUSchedulerSvc.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSvcHst.exe C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jqs.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\slserv.exe C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jusched.exe C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI Control Panel\atiptaxx.exe C:\WINDOWS\SOUNDMAN.EXE C:\PROGRA~1\BTHOME~1\Help\SMARTB~1\BTHelpNotifier.exe C:\Program Files\btbb_wcm\McciTrayApp.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Yahoo!\browser\ybrwicon.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Yahoo!\YOP\yop.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe C:\Program Files\PowerISO\PWRISOVM.EXE C:\PROGRA~1\Yahoo!\browser\ycommon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\Lib\NMBgMonitor.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\Lib\NMIndexStoreSvr.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Yahoo!\YOP\SSDK02.exe C:\Program Files\BT Home Hub\Help\bin\mpbtn.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Yahoo!\MESSEN~1\ymsgr_tray.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuauclt.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC\symlcsvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://uk.red.clientapps.yahoo.com/...b/*http://uk.docs.yahoo.com/info/bt_side.html R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://uk.red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/btyahoo/defaults/sp/*http://uk.search.yahoo.com/ R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?id=3546 R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://uk.red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/btyahoo/defaults/su/*http://uk.search.yahoo.com/ R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://uk.red.clientapps.yahoo.com/...b/*http://uk.docs.yahoo.com/info/bt_side.html R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://uk.red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/btyahoo/defaults/sp/*http://uk.search.yahoo.com/ R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://uk.red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/btyahoo/defaults/su/*http://uk.search.yahoo.com/ R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext = http://api.home/ R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = 127.0.0.1 R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Hi, For some reason Norton misses a hell of alot of attacks. It missed 6 trojans on our systems. However there is a solution. The firts is change from Norton to Virus software like AVG Anti Virus. The next is to use Spybot Search and Destroy, this picked up the trojans Norton missed and got rid of them. You can also use Windows Live Onecare and Windows Defender. With these you should be able to combat and remove most threats. Remember some attacks completely bypass firewalls so even if you have them turned on you may not be totally safe. Make sure once you have got rid of any virus/malware problems you run daily scans to keep things clean. Regards.
