well this is just something interesting, that i came across. I went to best buy and compusa and staples. All 3 they were selling sony 50pk. dvd-r and dvd+r made in taiwan for 39.99 but when I went to walmart i saw them selling sony dvd -r and +r for 28.00 regular price, that is amazing the differnce in price and for the better media MIJ. Thought that i would share that. what does everyone think of Sony and their media. Alkohol doesn't think to highly of them as they were not in his/her top 3. I think that they are great but what do you think? do they come close to TY's???

actually, aabbccdd is 1/2 correct, in the 8x dvd+r Sony MIJ =YUDEN000T02 coded which are Taiyo Yuden...the 8x dvd-r Sony MIJ are NOT TAIYO YUDENs~ :) i think you might have gotten it confused with Fujifilm~ :)

the MIJ on the 8x dvd-r Fuji's are TYG02= which are Taiyo Yudens...

finally, Sony media is pretty good...even with the Sony coding...

    good luck

    docTY~

The Sony DVD+R MIJ ARE TYs. They code as YUDEN02. These are great disks, all I use as a matter of fact. TYs and a nice white surface for sharpies (although I have a R320 now - can't wait to use it.) Do you have Disk Identifier? Pretty handy tool, if you don't you should get it here I think: http://DVD.Identifier.CDfreaks.com. I for one never buy disks for that price. You can get these Sony's on sale for $14.99 per 50 pk ($.30 a disk). They usually go on sale about once a month. Staples, Best Buy, Office Depot, etc. will have a sale, but they all price match so you can get these for that price wherever you have near you.

That's about $10 too much!! Wait for staples or best buy to have them on sale if you can. They were $20 a spindle, now about $18 a spindle when on sale. One should be coming up shortly. Bestbuy also have sales on their sony media. When staples runs out,I take them over to wallyworld and they price match them? If staples only has taiwanese,I'll get the japanese yuden000-T02 at walmart.

The 8x speed sony are very good from either taiwan or japan. I used 100 of the dash 8x -Japanese-and not a single issue. They were coded as Sony08D1,btw-the taiwanese sony dash 8x are also Sony08D1. Sony is notorious for using the same MID code on media from different countries. Take the dreaded dash 4x sony. That sony04D1 code was from both taiwan and austria!!!!Thank goodness they are about extinct!

Those taiwanese and japanese spindles will be all mixed together. One batch may be one country, and next batch may be from the other.

The Japanese fujis are sweet. So are the Japanese maxells, they are made by Hitachi! When on sale, you can get these from 30-40 cents each.locally!

aabbccdd: I wish they had those prices on the plus format tys. That sucks that local stores have either format for the same price, but not the web stores.Plus is always a lot higher at rima/meritline/and supermedia store.

I agree with saugmon on the sony 8x media both MIJ and Taiwan, never had an issue, but I still prefer TY 8x media since the pricing is just about as good when purchased in bulk from SuperMediaStore.com
