I am having painful experience making a dvd copy using my sony drx700ul. I can not get good burning copy after Nero burning rom.
this is how I have tried.
movie dvd --> DVDFab HD decripter to make sure it is none copy protected --> DVD shrink to >7G file to 1 dvd capacity.
use double pass and default sharpness. it created a ISO image file.
then lastly, i used Nero 7 burning rom.
I used verbatim DataLifePlus dvd -R.
I have updated the firmware to the latest for sony dvd writer from Sony website.
The copy is not able to view, data is not viewable. When it verified data after burning to dvd, it showed a lot of sector errors.
And can not able to watch due to freezing frames.
what have I done wrong? I wasted many bad burned dvds.
i read many successful copy results from people who use nero or dvd shrink.

dvd is 8x and burning rom uses default value at 8x.
should I lower it, like 2.4x as showing in option box?
yes, it can play either my standalone dvd player and pc.
humm, I didn't save a log but will try to get it and post here.

    thanks,

If you created a iso file and it is the correct size for a DVD5 then why not try imgburn to burn it. Personally, I find imgburn to be a better option program for iso burning than Nero. Imgburn is free.

But as Rotary stated this can be from bad media.

    thanks, Rotary.
I used lower speed and it went through fine, and no errors found when data was verified.
But why 8x didn't work well? is it because my Sony dvd writer(drw 700dl) is not capable writing that fast even though my dvd media is rated to write 8x?
do you have any idea why Nero burning rom only shows 2.4x or 2x not 4x?
it took me about 27 mins to burn one dvd at 2x speed. I guess it is ok taking more time as long as it can copy cleanly.

Last night, I also converted .avi main movie file to video_ts using Nero vision and burned it. I am able to play in PC but not stand alone dvd player. It seems like it does not recognize the file.
do you have any suggestion what I should have done differently?

thank you and other AfterDawn addicts....

usually whatwever the max speed, most here say burn half that speed

    16x at 8
    8x at 4

    etc...

couple things niggling me here? 2.4x is usually a dvd+R disc not dvd-R

    and

verbatims top speed for your discs is 8x? should be 16x with verbs out now, i wonder if there fakes?

this avi to dvd that dint work, is it the same batch of dvdrs from the slow burn job that did work?

try loading the bad burn dvd to dvd shrink see if it errors on load?

not playing on standalone player could be it dont like the discs?
