hi, i have Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit sound card and italways worked fine i wasn't home whole month (july) but today i came back, turned on the computer, and there was no sound - my sound card not detected at all by device manager or anything and everytime i m trying to launch some of the sound blaster applications (like device control or speaker settings...) it says : "The audio device supported by this application is not detected. The application will exit" so i replaced sound card to different slot - no results and also i reinstalled with sound blaster cd - doesn't help please somebody help!!!
first, check your mother board's BIOS and make sure that onboard audio is turned off. then, try out the directions in this link. lots of people have been having trouble with audigy and live sound cards showing up in windows. http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=soundblaster&message.id=70663
thanks for the reply i disabled vinyl ac'97 tru device manager and i don;t know how to do it from bios - should i uninstall it from device manager? btw there was no sound from ac 97. the link u gave me didn't help coz i don't even have sound card founded on computer i also tried to use add hardware , but from creative section - there is only sound blaster 16.
when your pc reboots, and the first splash screen comes up telling you to hit delete or f3 or something, you do that to enter BIOS. from there you can look around and find on board sound to check if it is turned off. BTW have you checked your speakers? and what exactly is displayed in dev manager under "Sound, video and game controllers"? also, what OS are you using?
no i know how to get to bios i just couldn't find it there under "Sound, video and game controllers" it says: ATI T200 Unified AVStream Driver Audio Codecs Legacy Audio Drivers Legacy Video Capture Drivers Media COntrol Devices MPU-401 Compatible MIDI Device Standart Game Port Video Codecs and there always was Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit - but now it's gone i am using windwos xp and how can i check my speakers if sound card is not detected how could this happen it was turned off for whole month - maybe sound card broke?
last things i can think of trying are to boot into safe mode and try installing the cd there, or taking the sound card to a buddy's house and trying to install it there. to check the speakers, take an ipod or portable cd player and plug the black input in to it and see if you get sound. its very possible that the card is broken though.
