    Hi,
I've spent the last 48 hours working on this one issue, and I am at a loss, so I look forward to your help..

I am trying to split a movie (Kung Pow: Enter the Fist). I rip it to my HD as per the guides, and then run IFOedit to view what titles I need. I load up VIDEO_TS.IFO and hit play DVD.. I get a screen stating that this movie is not formatted to play in this region.

I find that odd since it plays fine in WinDVD. The DVD is region 1 and so is my DVD player.

I tried to use the 'remove region' feature of IFOedit and there was no difference.

When I use VOBrator to view the vobs, all that is in VIDEO_TS.IFO is that screen.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!! I have been able to copy a DVD5 to DVD-R with no problem, and I was able to strip out the full screen version of a DVD9 and copy it to DVD-R, but I have yet to copy a split DVD.

    thanks again in advance,
    Alex

Don't play it, split it and strip the VOB id's then get the VTS sectors for each of the two discs. It will now be region free.

Tried to do just that last night with limited luck. I was able to get the DVD to play part way in IFOedit, but when I burned it to DVD and tried in my PS2, it failed.

I think I may be getting confused as to what files to copy.

Has anyone tried to back up Kung Pow: Enter the Fist yet?

OK, well.. 6 coasters later I am at a loss. I got the rips to play on my HD through IFOedit, but when I burn them they do not play in my playstation2.

I am willing to pay someone to show me how to properly back up Kung Pow, without re-muxing and all that, and have it play on my Playstation2.

I have followed all the guides with no luck. It just does not play.

    :(

    Anyone up for the challenge?

I am having the same problem with Titan A.E. I ripped everything onto my HDD. I then opened the IFO pertaining to the movie and clicked dvd play to make sure everything ripped ok and the dvd would play from my HDD. With this movie I got "This disc is not formatted to play in this region". I figured at the end it wouldn't matter so I continued to strip everything to just contain the movie like I do with all my DVD copyings. Opened new IFO and clicked dvd play. This time no error, the dvd played but the movie was messy, choppy, slowed down, sped up..whatever you wanna call it and had no sound. When stripping I always only pick to keep one audio and keep only the VOB id's the movie used (found in program chain listings). I have read that if it doesnt play correctly in dvd play, it will deffinately not play correctly after you burn it so I didnt try to burn it.

Anyone know how to move around this error "This disc is not formatted to play in this region"?

Did anyone "region free" their discs ?
Just a quick note not only do you have to "region free" the Video_ts.ifo but ALL .ifo`s for the whole movie, this should solve all probs with region messages.
    :)

Agreed.. Did everything by the book.. everything worked well from the HDD, but once I burn the disc.. nada.. Is there any similarity between all these different DVDs? Perhaps the same production Co or something?

Effing annoying.. I think the only way I will be able to back up that movie is to rip the main movie out of the disc and update the VTS, then on disc2 rip just the extras an update the VTS.. Of course on both discs you want to throw on the menu and all the basics of the disc..

I don't know if that will work, but it may.. I will try to night and post tomorrow..

    UPDATE!!

OK, I was able to split and burn a working backup of the first disk (haven't even tried the second yet).

I couldn't burn normally with nero as it said that it couldn't reallocate the files or something like that, BUT according to another post, I just bruned it with nero making it UDF 1.02 Physcial Partition, and it worked.

After I got that to work, I realized that the second disc is too big and the easiest way to fix that is to just copy over the entire primary movie vob (10 in this case) to disc 1 and all the extras to disc 2. I then tried to remove all the extra crap (ie warnings) and burned another back up.. this one did NOT work. I didn't get any error message in my PS2 when I tried to play it.. just a blank screen. Normally, if I insert a non-DVD, I get an error to that effect.

    Any suggestions/comments?

    TiA,
    Alex
