I am trying to back up one of my movies, and it said copy protected. I downloaded the newest anydvd and now it says can not read drive E. I tried backing up a few discs and got messages like cyclical redudancy error and so forth, but now it can't read the drive when i try and open it in dvd shrink. It will play the disc straight out of the drive, but won't open it in dvd shrink

Sounds like a software related issue with the programs you're using. Though I don't think I have run into those errors except for the cyclic redundancy error. Generally I get one specific error from one program and the other might give me a different one. The best solution I found to work was to try multiple different software programs and see what the results are. As far as the computer saying can't read the drive, I think that is either a hardware issue, or something in the dvd itself that prevents unauthorized ripping. I remember my modded xbox would allow me to rip the dvd, but when placed in the dvd drive on the computer, it would never show up or be seen for some reason.
