    For the last week I have been trying to copy a DVD to another DVD and copy vob,bup,avi files.I used downloads from here.
    A guy at work ask me if I had a burner and I told him I didn't no.
    I went home and looked into my systems hardware and found this,now I'm am not sure.
    I have two drives drive D' says HL -DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8162B and drive E says SAMSUNG CD_R/RW SW-252S
    Could someone help me out and let me what I need,if I do need a dvd burner I'll buy it,can I download one off one of the sponsors here or do I need a externel one.
    Thanks

    Hi gun_smoke
    Nope you don't have a dvd burner. The one is a dvd-rom and the other a cd burner.
    You can't download one from the sponsors here :) You'll need to buy one.
    You could also get an internal dvd burner and just take out one of the other drives. An external works too.
    Ones to look at buying - LiteOn or Pioneer.

    When you get one, I'd replace the cd burner, since dvd burners will also burn cds. Having a DVD Rom drive AND a DVD burner, will make doing backups a lot easier. You can get them started, and walk away, until it's finished.
    Good luck!

    Now I no it wasn't me.I read alot of help file during that time so when I do get a burner I'll no a little about the subject,JVC answered my question about replacing the cd burner.I didn't no a dvd burner would burn cd's also.
    I was checking out a Plextor PX-712UF 8x DVD+/-RW Drive that someone is selling for $70.00 ,but it does not come with a manual,software disc,usb cable,ieee cable and no power cord.It was brand new in box.
    If it had everything in the box it would of sold for $227.00.
    I could use a few suggestions on what to buy since this is a whole new world.
    Thanks Again

    Plextor's are the Cadillacs of the burning world, but not necessary. You can get a very nice Samsung, Lite-On or Pioneer as suggested by Binkie for less than $40 shipped from http://www.NewEgg.com. Beware of ebay sellers.

    No longer, many now are just cheap Lite-ons. I picked up 2 Plex 740As awhile back because they were Benq 1640s.

    I should have said used to be the cadillacs, but if you can find a "real" Plexy then it should be a top notch drive.

    @gun_smoke
    What error are you getting?
    How about the media you're using?
    Burn speed you have it set at?

    @gunsmoke

    agree with bigwill. go with lite on. i just tossed my old dinosaur samsung out and have been thrilled with the lite-on i picked up.
    and as a general rule, burn at half the speed it's capable of.
