I've recently been having problems with my notebook shutting off when I'm playing EverQuest. Strangely it only shuts off when I enter the Plane of Knowledge. I've tried contacting Sony about this and they told me to delete and re-download files cause the ones I have might be corrupted, but that didn't help.
It's also shut itself off when I was running only IE. I tried wiping and reinstalling Windows and it seemed to work better, but it still shuts off when I play EQ. I was wondering if it was the video card or the power supply or something else. Any help would be appreciated.

Here are some of the specs:

    Pentium 4 3.20GHz
    768MB SDRAM
    NVidia GeForce FX Go5600

It sits on a HP expansion base with a cooling pad between the back of the base and the notebook itself.

If any other specs are needed just let me know. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

I'm running Direct X 9.0c. I've checked the EQ site and done everything that was recommended, but they don't have much info on a problem like this.

I've done all of that. Actually the computer is clean because all I've installed are the drivers and applications (from the HP discs) and updated Windows via the Windows Update, so I have SP2 now. The virus and ad scans come up with nothing. I've updated my video drivers to the ones that Sony advises.

Yes, the driver the Sony suggested was NVidia's newest driver.

I had this problem with SP1 as well. I've also formatted my computer twice and tried both before and after installing SP2. It does the same thing no matter which one I'm running.

My computer exceeds all of the recommended specs.

I'm using separate discs. One is the operating system, another is the drivers and another is the applications.

I tried changing the compatibility and it still did the same thing.

My roommate plays the game on two computers and doesn't have a problem with it, but he has a Dell computer with different specs than I have.

Thank you so much for all your help thus far. I will try the DirectX fix.
