Hello, I received the letter from my isp (SBC) that paramount pictures and others has subpoened the ISP to release the name of the person associated with certain ip addresses. What do I do know? Just wait for the letter from the lawfirm or call them now? I did lot of searches on different web sites, but no clues. I see that this was discussed earlier on this forum, but no outcome. Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the quick reply. There are not enough information at all on the process. I checked eff.org also. I see that quite a few people received letter from ISPs and attorneys. Then what happened nobody knows (atleast me).
why would they be trying to identify you . and what if any claim do they lay for this intrusion . and what country are you from or state . and just how many letters have you heard have been sent . have you contacted a lawyer? and what if anything did they recomend you do . how long ago did you receive this letter? have you ever been warned to stop any possible illegal activity that has been associated with your ip address?
Before this letter from my ISP, I have not received any emails/letters from anybody. Only yesterday I received the letter from ISP saying MPAA wants information about 64 IP addresses (mine is one of them) on Jan 17. If I do not move to the court to quash, they will be giving my information to MPAA on Jan 17. BTW, i am in northern california and the attorney representing MPAA is Loeb & Loeb in Los Angeles.
i would definatly try to hire a lawyer that has had some past experience in internet based claims. the least the lawyer may be able to do is delay them from getting your personal info so that you can put together some ideas to try and wiggle out of this. i guess it may depend on what you were doing and how much . if you were making available alot of protected media to the net , and i mean more than a few hundred files , you may want to try and settle as it could get ugly. it would be nice for you if there were a lawyer that was a member here at ad and would step up and offer you some suggestions ,as i am sure what you are being accused of doing ,many if not most people that have a broadband connections have done and will continue to do . though most regulate the times that they allow there systems to offer anything back to the whole scene. they still are at the same odds as everybody else. one thing i would like to say here is that it is truly a shame we as the consumer that keeps the engines of these huge corporations fuled and running tip top faile to see how they are destroying the very thing that has gotten them to the top and that is the consumer and we are the only ones to be blamed for this , as we let them predict how we run our lives. when you are hungry ,what do you think mickey d's . i thought so . these types of companies are hireing more and more middle to late aged people because they are finding that these kinds of people are desperate enough for any kind of employment that they become very loyay and dependable workers , but yet the corporations will not stand up and fend for us they continue to exploite the average american as they no he or she is defenseless and do not have a leg to stand on . shame on them . this goes for almost all but a very small handfull of honest compasionate companys. i am sure you have heard of wallymart which comes into town and wipes out small bussiness like a plague and then sends there workers to the welfaire line when they need a raise or health insurence . what a joke . and yet the consumer stands by and lets this happen ? what johhny doesnt see when he goes to wallyworld and buys his 27 inch tv or his favorite 2% whole milk is that he could go up the street to leroys tv shop that has been there for over 60 years and buy that same tv for maybe 20.00 more and no that his hard earned money is going to a good cause like paying leroys tv shop salesman a competitive wage so that he has a chance to live a prosporius life and that the money will cycle its way through the comunity and help many others through its course of hand trading. i no i have fallen of course a bit here but it is all relavent as most everyone has fallen into this trap and do not see or here of the terrible damage these monsters are causing us as consumers. remember every time you spend your money at one of these huge, inhuman,and greedy corporations you are lineing the pocket of some of the richest and most powerfull people in the world ,and when you spend your money with them you are enableing them to make next mounths payment on the leier jets they have parked in the driveway . and most of all how can you look the employees of these monster companys in the eyes and feel good about yourself nowing all the while that there employer is sticking to them . even if most all of these companies kept there current priceing the way they are and started paying there employees the way they should be ,they would still be makeing massive profits. there is only one reason for this to happen time and time again ,and that is because we let it . wake up and stop making the rich richer. we are in control ,we always have been . i feel very bad for you as i am sure the feelings one would feel haveing received a letter that is informing you that you are about to be in a whole lotta sh_t is not a nice feeling to have . the only thing that i can do for you is to try and get someones attention for you that can help , or at least have some knowledge in these areas . i no the people here at afterdawn are a freindly group of people and i am not trying to say otherwise , i am simply trying to help everyone see that most all of this big bussiness was allowed to florish and grow with the support of the consumer , then one day they take the consumer for granted and started telling us what we can do with the stuff we bought and own . though not all of them do this, but most all are not in the bussiness of seeing there employees succed and grow with them . they will keep running this world till we wake up and then it may be to late as they may of striped us of all our rights possibly. if we all could unite as one , imagine the power , imagine us reguler jane and johns telling the companys that if they do not do this that way then we will no longer support you and your products and that we hope you enjoyed your stay because it is now over . talk about the customer is always right . unfortunatley this day will never come as we as people will never stand up for ourselfs , we have become sooo lazy that we rely on the governments of our world to tell us what color of socks we will wear thursday morning . anyway i have overstayed my welcome on this reply ,so good luck and be smart.
Thanks tbiggs. I guess I will wait for a letter from the law firm before I contact the attorney. The window to stop my ISP (or atleast delay) from releasing the information to MPAA is very small (basically by this friday).

keep us posted and good luck . someone needs to open a none profit corporation in the states that is set up to help victoms of the riaa and the mpaa . they have one for everything else so what the heck . anyone no where to get the documents to get the ball rollin . lol.
just tell them you have no idea what they are talking about, but on or around that time you were infected with a few trojan horses that your antivirus detected and removed. I seriously doubt they would spend the time and money to try and prove otherwise. 99% of these lawsuits are nothing more than scare tactics and wishful thinking on the part of the MPAA. It's similar to all the lawsuits direcTV filed a few years ago, they were only hoping people would cave in and just settle with them, since there was no way at all to prove a crime was committed. They were just counting on people to get scared and bow down. I know quite a few people in the satellite community that got those letters and simply ignored them and nothing happened. one hguy i know personally got 3 letters and never responded amnd they finally stopped trying to reach him. You do what you want, but i'd either ignore it or show up to court and tell them to prove YOU were stealing from them. You could have just as easily been the victim of a hijacking yourself, they really have no way to prove otherwise.
make sure if you do have anything pertent on your hard drive you do a low level format run over everything 3 times thats the DOD standard. and say that whole my computer has been hijacked. because in actuality it has no physical evidence just a log of your ip ps use peer guardian
