Hi a friend gave me a DVD with a movie on it but it won't play on my pc with windows or on my DVD player. I live in England so i need to convert the dvd to PAL, but i was also wondering why it won't play with windows on my pc. Anybody know what DVDR-Bow stands for and how to convert it? Thanks in advance!
I think BOW is the person or group that released it as a torrent. The PC does not care if it's PAL or NTSC - it should play back like any other DVD (if in fact it is a DVD compliant movie). Examine the files on the disk with Explorer. There should be a 'VIDEO_TS' folder containing files similar to this: (there may not be a Menu file). +VIDEO_TS.IFO +VIDEO_TS.VOB (Copyright notice:displayed first) +VIDEO_TS.BUP (copy of VIDEO_TS.IFO) + +VTS_01_0.IFO (Information file about Title 1) +VTS_01_0.BUP (Backup information file) +VTS_01_0.VOB (Menu for Title 1) +VTS_01_1.VOB (Movie file for Title 1) +VTS_01_2.VOB etc The .VOB files are up to 1GB in size.
Is windows saying anything about it?.. I manage to make a lot of fully compliant dvd's which for some reason windows doesn't like. I don't know why because there is nothing at all wrong with them.. vlc, all 4 of my dvd players and the 3 pc's that have dvd drives in them will play them just fine. but not stupid windoze. Could be the disk isn't finalized?.. maybe it came out of a standalone dvd recorder.... how many of those do I see in a month.."it won't play in my dvd player or computer"... about 50. I bought a real cheapo every region all disk dvd recorder which handles even disks made on another machine because I get so many of them as "can you try and get xxxxx's wedding video off this.. it doesn't play" jobs.. I charge a stupid amount of money for popping the disk in my machine and hitting "finalize".... well.. data recovery is expensive and takes a lot of time... ain't it just :lol: BTW.. Get Smart, Hancock or I Am Legend?? DVDR-BOW are a release group.. so it's probably just a screwed up burn by your "friend" What brand disk is it?
The disc is an Arita disc, my brother-in-law got them for me, i've never had any problems with them. The files are coming up as img files, could that be why they won't play?
Read here http://www.moviecodec.com/topics/6297p1.html guy had the same problem, in a nutshell, rename the file extension to .ISO and you'll be all set, Go to the folder you have the IMG file stored in ... click on Tools > Folder Options > View, and uncheck the box saying 'Hide extensions for known file types' In the folder again, it will now display the name of the image file + the .IMG extension, now you can change this to an ISO extension by just writing over the img extension E.G. change it from movie.img to movie.iso and then burn it with any DVD burning software, IMGBurn, Nero, CloneDVD2 etc. :et me know how it turns out. Or use DVDDecrypter to burn it. lots of options here
No need to change extentions. ImgBurn (the one you should be using anyway) and DVDDecrypter (among others) burn .img files. ImgBurn supports a wide range of image file formats - including BIN, CUE, DI, DVD, GI, IMG, ISO, MDS, NRG and PDI.

Hi, i just wanted to say thanks to everyone that helped me with this movie, unfortunately i couldn't work out how to convert it, so i just borrowed a divX copy instead. Thanks anyway guys!
