    jeffsreid,
You're close. Most, but I don't think all, PAL players will either play NTSC DVDs. Some will output a PAL signal, some will output PAL60 (PAL resolution with NTSC framerates), and I believe some will output either one. Unfortunately there are some PAL TVs that won't accept either signal. They're in the minority, but I've heard that they do exist.

    Jerry746,
Thanks. After all the reading I've done in the last year or so trying to understand video it's kind of nice to sit and type some of it out and find out I know more than I thought I did. I personally think the only reason we're seeing the increase in multi-format NTSC equipment is because the Chinese and Korean manufacturers started selling it. Say what you want about the quality of their products, but they've thrown a wrench into the less innovation/higher prices approach the Japanese have been taking in recent years. I see a lot of similarities to the way the Japanese quietly came in and took over consumer electronics from American companies, and judging from some of the products coming from Japan now (like the Pioneer 563) I'd say they're starting to see that. Hopefully that means good things for consumers.

Thank you Siber, for having written in this forum the result of using the Cyberhome DVD player. I had already been successful changing region code 2 to region free but the resulting DVD was still in PAL whereas I also wanted to convert PAL to NTSC. I had already owned the Cyberhome player and had no idea the machine supported PAL playback in addition to NTSC. Thanks for the heads up!

My other standalone players only support NTSC so have been hanging around this forum while trying to accomplish converting from PAL to NTSC. Am trying many suggestions of others to see what works best. Almost there!

Please, clarify. You are playing a PAL DVD in the Cyberhome and are/are not able to watch it on a NTSC television?

Actually converting the signal from PAL to NTSC (on your computer, I presume) is an entirely and much more difficult (and more expensive) proposition. You could check out: http://www.dvfilm.com/atlantis/

I can verify that I have converted a PAL (region 2) dvd to PAL (region free) dvd that is playing trough my Cyberhome (model 300) stand alone dvd player and is being viewed on my NTSC TV. I am in the USA and the TV does NOT surrort PAL. The Cyberhome model dvd player supports PAL, NTSC and P-SCAN (apparently a built in converter inside) that allows the dvd to read PAL and play and be viewed on the NTSC TV. I have 2 other players here (both cost over $300) but neither of them will play the PAL dvd. This inexpensive player is great!

I understand converting PAL to NTSC on the computer and then backing up to dvd is much more involved as far as time and money. It is a challenge I am working on and so far have been fairly successful. Am trying a number of different programs to find which works best for me. I converted a small 30 minute PAL movie file to NTSC successfully last night though continue to try to find an easier and faster alternative as some are more difficult than others.

Thanks to this forum and well as a couple of other boards I am watching and loads of research via the internet, there appears to be a few options to accomplish the end result.

I had already seen the link you suggested though have not yet given it a try.
