so i like many other people before me have gotten the navata.sys error, so ive done some research and people said things like running windows recovery and just copying the file in. i would like to do this, but i have forgotten my administrative password-fail-and i cant get in in safe mode or last known cofig or anything to restore. so i thought i could run an edition of linux and manually copy the file in, but i dont have the file. so if somebody could post one or give me another suggestion on how to find out pw or fix my pc WITHOUT reinstalling windows, cause im not trying to lose all my programs and stuffs thanks o and also if you could tell me a good linux boot disk that i could use to do this
First do a chkdsk c: /f before you try and copy the file over. If there is any corruption on the drive the chkdsk will fix it. All you need is the windows installation cd or a bartpe to run the command. this free bootcd can reset your admin password. http://pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd/
i tried the password shiz, but in recovery console it always says invalid password. i tired unlock reseting and blanking the password. also i have another account which has admin powers but it never works and i nkow the password i ran into this problem before i remember, but i was able to fix with out it i dont think i can do it this time though, so any other suggestions would be great im trying the bartpe option it seems promising
so i had to do a bartpe using my other pc so i think that it didnt have the nvata.sys file so the chkdsk didnt put it back in so if anybody can just post a link to download it it would be awesome soo i got the file by extracting it from one of nvidias driver updates ill tell you guys how it goes it worked but when I turned on my computer I was infected by the most cripling viruses ever. sooo that means another day of no usage for scanning lol o well
