    Everything else works without problems.
Only the background option lets NVE lock up.
    Any help?

    The version NVE is 4.0.0.1

The funny thing is that it worked wthout problems for months.
I think it must be a problem of compatibility...

Will do some more testing later.

    Thanks for the fast help.

I'm having the same exact problem as you. I've tried everything to make it work but it still locks up at background selection. At least now i know i'm not the only one with this annoying problem.

I just downloaded NV4content.exe from Nero homepage, installed it and now the locking is gone (for this time).
I will try burning a second film (which locked every time).

Tell me exactly what I have to do to replicate your problem. You are in NV 4 on the Edit menu page and you select "background" and it locks up?

Until then, could you have a corrupted background image NV 4 is trying to load, or perhaps a bad path to the file?

Yes, after creation of the chapters, I want to chose a different background and everything locks up or at least takes a very long time.
As for the corrupted background file: I cleaned the the directory..
Where can I set the path to the files?

Don't know about setting the path, will have to do some research. On my system, the background images come from 2 places. One was installed orginally, and I think the other was installed with the extra material. They are C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\NeroVision MenuTemplates and Pictures folders.

I tried changing the name of the folders and NV 4 could not find the files and put an X through them. You might try that on the 3 folders to see if anything changes. You have to restart NV 4 when you change the names back to rescan the folders.

There could also be a video messed up, since they may load also. They come from the video folder located as the ones above and it seems they use the videos you have loaded in your project. I suppose you have tried opening a new project and making sure all the files are removed from the asset window on the editing page. Then check it if still locks up.

    I will do some research.

I found a way to make it stop locking up temporarily but it will happen again once you load up another pic for the background. All i did was delete the background pic i loaded up the first time and it worked again. I tried different files but it would still lock up until i deleted the file.

I have been unable to find where NV 4 keeps the file location information. I also notice you cannot delete one of the references.

There is also an audio box on the background options, have you ever loaded an audio file for the background?

It sounds more like the problem is involved with the process of loading the file and not the actual file itself. Do you have anything that might inhibit file access, or might something be on a removable media that isn't loaded?

I will keep looking, maybe someone else knows how NV 4 remembers where the files are.

OK, something you might try. I have done this on my system and no problems so far.

There is a file called [bold]nve-am.bin[/bold] which seems to contain the background information for NV 4. You can either move the file to another location (just in case) or delete it completely. Make sure NV 4 is shutdown when you do this so you can start it and see what happens. When you open the background dialogue box, there should be no audio or pictures available (unless you have the new content, which I don't)

You can search for the file, or find it in:
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Ahead\NeroVision

I have deleted all the .bin files there and they have been regenerated when NV 4 opens. I am hoping something in that file has become corrupt so getting rid of it and forcing it to regenerate may fix the problem
