I've been using ConvertX and NVE for a while now. I use ConvertX to encode all my avi TV episodes into DVD format, then I import the DVD formated epidoes into nero and use nero to make menues and burn the result. The problem I'm having is that, on occation, Nero (or at least its 'smart' encoder) doesn't recognize some of the converted files and decides it wants to re-encode them. I think this has to do with the fact that there is something in the source avi's that ConvertX can deal with that baffles Nero's encoding recognition. Now I know for a fact that the ConvertX encoded files themselves are fine; I can burn them without using NVE and they work great, but i cannot figure out how to make the smart encoder recognize them as valid, nor can i figure out how to force Nero to NOT encode any of my files (or touch the chapter marks CovertX puts in, but that's another issue. I'd love to get away from using Nero at all since I've had so many problems with it, but i haven't found a menu maker that i liked as much as neros yet. As for my background info, I'm using the safe version of Nero 7 and NVE 4, although i had the same problem with the safe version of Nero 6 and NVE 3 before i upgraded. As well as ConvertX 2.0.12.126
I hate Nero as an encoder. It takes way way too long (I literally have thousands of episodes to convert and can't take 4 hrs per disc), and can't compress worth a crap (it seems to want huge amounts of space for the same bitrates), not to mention that I've never seen it get the syncing right. Your guide is great but I didn't learn anything new to change these facts.
