I'm just wondering if buying the new nVidia card, the 9600 GT, would be a solid move for me. I currently don't have a card for gaming, and I want a card that will be able to play new games that come out for a while. Here's my current PC specs... Windows Vista Ultimate/Windows XP Professional Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz 2GB DDR2 RAM Computer has a 4.6 Base rating on Vista. Thanks.
This should probably be in the hardware section, but to answer your question a 9600 will bring your already good system to being capable of paying the newer games. I am not sure how much power the 9600 takes, but if you have a prebuilt system then I highly recommend a new power supply. Prebuilt PCs come with cheap PSUs that are made for the exact specs of the pc - they dont expect people to add a high performance graphics card to it. If you decide not to add one, you computer may die shortly after use and could cause a electrical surge that will kill all components - it's happened to me more than once. Thats how I learned. I would recommend a Corsair VX500.
Appreciate the help, it is a custom built computer, not built by me though. Here is the power supply I have put in the machine, its the 500 watt version. http://www.ultraproducts.com/product_details.php?cPath=59&pPath=369&productID=369
just to let you know. the 9600GT is the same as the 8800GT. with a huge price difference. I think. the 9600GT is a medium card. Read some reviews before buying anything. I highly recommend you do! VGM out...
