    Thanks guys, I might just get the cheap Litey and a Benq 1655. I need to retire a 4X TDK drive. I like my 1650 so much I just want a spare.

    @Joshewah,
    I agree with aabbccdd on the importance of playback and using good media. All of the discs play fine, it was strange to me that the TY scanned out better than the original.

    @aabbccdd,
    I forgot to mention I ordered 100 of the valueline TY's (DVD-R) for less than $30 delivered. They should be here on Tuesday and I can't wait to try them out. I needed to get some more of the DVD-R's because my parents not unlike others have a picky DVD Player. Thanks for the heads-up on using the valueline. Hope I get the same positive results that most have.

    hello all,

    been away for a few weeks, work has been so hectic, i have no time~ :)

    for those of you who have Benq 1650s are are planning on purchasing one...at least as a preliminary measure, the newest firmware BCIC is pretty good (at least for me on my setup) :)

    [IMG]

    this is only my 2nd burn w/ this new fw, so only room for improvement~ LOL my 1650 is still "re-learning" my media...given a few more burns, i expect to have consistent 98-99s QS (quality score, not QSuite :p)

    i'll be on a little more frequently now, but not nearly as much as i was even a few months ago...good to see members helping members here, i am not about to let my thread die anytime soon~ :)

    good day to you all...burn on...

    glad to see you again doc...that 1650 benq is a real stinker to get your hands on now adays....outside of being in and out of stock every where that drive is pretty popular...

    with the new firmware update for my HP burner(thanks Binkie7) all those problems with those verbs i have are all but gone. ive done about 16 burns with this new firmware on those verbs and not a problem one...plus ive done about 8 or 9 burns on the sony 16x-r's(TY003) and nothing but awesome. had a friend close to me here do a few scans for me 97-98 consitantly...

    i have seen some 16+r sony's MIJ at my local walmart. dont think they were TY's though didnt have the octagnal spacer on it, but they were +r mij id say they would code out as sony brand..

    good seeing ya cincyrob, ur dvds are on their way back to ya! :)

    wanna make a wager that those Sony's are SONYD21 coded? lol...as of TODAY, i have yet to have a single credible person come to me and have me verify a 16x dvd+r MIJ Sony brand disc is Taiyo Yuden produced, so i would like to dispell that "myth" right now...

    regardless of the "spacer theory"...whether it be hexagonal or circular white spacer...the "made in japan" Sony 16x dvd+r ARE NOT TAIYO YUDEN MADE, so whoever u hear spreading these rumors here on AD's media forums, please tell them to stop with the nonsense...

    TY made the Sony branded discs (MIJ) in the 8x speed rating and also the MIJ 16x dvd-r Sony (TYG03s)...but, this does NOT hold true for the 16x dvd+r Sonys :) if anyone argues that point with you, tell them to PM me and i will verify their findings PERSONALLY. :)

    there is no more "hearsay" necessary and people "hoping" to find TYs under the Sony branded 16x dvd+r format, it WILL NOT BE Taiyo Yudens~

    as much as people want to try the YUDEN000T03s that I, among others in the UK (creaky) has and currently use, so far for us United States customers, they are only available online from a reputable online vendor, rima.com :)

    http://www.rima.com/Merchant2/merch...roduct_Code=1776-100&Category_Code=TAIYOYUDEN

    they (meaning the YUDEN000T03 MID coded Taiyo Yudens) are NOT available at brick and mortar stores under the various other "name brands" here in the States...people can "hope" all they want, but they will NOT get TY manufactured 16x dvd+r media under the Sony brand~ clear cut and dry...

    Welcome back DocTY. I've been asking that question for months about the SONY X16 MIJ +Rs. I have not bought any and are still using the X8Sonys which are TYs. Thanks for confirmation! Will upgrade my 1650. I'm looking for a spare 1650 and cant find them on line in states.

    @dolphin2

    Thanks, I have one ordered. I think I will retire my original TDK X4(LG). It was $39.95 free ship. A hair more than my first 1650 from newegg.

    You're welcome :) Glad HP finally had a update for it that did the trick for you.
    Looks like garmoon bet you to the BenQ
    Might want to check out the LiteOn - I'm a big fan of them.

    as long as they keep the same chipset in the 1655 i will get it. ive heard that the new 1670 has a different cheaper chip in it not makeing it as good as the 1650/55....but for now outside not being able to do the nero scan with my hp im very happy..... im able 2 burn all these 16x+r verbs now with no problem. got about 13 more then i tare into all my sony mij's.got roughly 100 of them -/+ both combined

    @cincyrob,
    As far as I could tell the DW-1655 has the same chipset. I looked it up on a couple of websites and info from some trusted members. I purchased the DW-1655 about a week ago and it has been pretty good, scores from 92-96 with the good stuff. I think it needs a firmware update though. I would really like to get to the 98's and 99's that the Doc is getting too. His setup is a little different than mine and he is getting some great scores. I have been using DVDShrink and CloneDVD2 for my backups but want to try DVD-RB when I get a chance to see if that makes any difference. I know it will on the bigger movies. Try this following link (if it works) to see the chipsets for the DW-1650 and DW-1655. This is the only concrete evidence I could find Rob. Good luck and happy burnin. :)

    Sorry I hope I didn't get the last one. Now I'm worried that the stock info was behind and they didn't have it when I ordered but I did get confirmation. Oh well.

    thank you all for your kind words and welcome back~ :)

    i sincerely hope you got in on time w/ the benq 1650 garmoon, online retailers sell out of them VERY quickly, even last week i had suggested buying one from meritline, but they are out of stock now as well~ :(

    i think the Benq 1650 will soon become the "new 1640" that was so popular before and sold out very quickly with no more being made~
    get them while they're hot before they are discontinued...

    @greensman

    my most recent quality score scan in on my new computer i just finished building a few weeks ago, i slapped another one of my Benq 1650s into this new machine and flashed it immediately after it was recognized by Windows~ :)

    i can safely say that my various Benq drives perform equally as well on both the AMD and the Intel platform, the main thing to be concerned about is keeping your system clean and clutter-free~ :)

    a fresh uninstall/install of the various burning/ripping/encoding programs i use is something i do about once or twice a year, naturally, with the most up-2-date versions of each~ :)

    i use Diskeeper 10 Professional Premier to keep my system defragged daily, i happen to like the "set it and forget it" feature that the program utilizes~ i'm also quite picky about keeping my system free of adware/spyware/etc....for that i use ad-aware SE Pro and CCleaner on a regular basis...

    everyone will have their own preferences when it comes to "cleaning" programs, as well as anti-virus proggies too; i think my habit of being a perfectionist in all things i do gives me the peace of mind and confidence knowing that my computers will always be up to par for burning and other chores...

    my new build uses the new Intel Conroe chip, much like my AMD build, it's overclocked significantly...

    AMD 4400+ x2 stock 2.2ghz overclocked to 2.7ghz PRIME stable...

    Intel Conroe E6600 2.4ghz stock overclocked to 3.6ghz PRIME stable...

    i'm just tweaking my settings a bit now to see if i can get the Conroe up to 3.7ghz stable (DVD-RB Pro and CCE/Procoder 2 crashes my system @ 3.7ghz or higher, but it's fine @3.6ghz...) :)

    anyways, this isn't a hardware thread...so, i'll stop now~ :)

    i think for the most part if you have decent system components, a clean harddrive, and a decent burner (with associated burning/ripping/transcoding/encoding programs to run alongside of it) and naturally using GOOD QUALITY dvd media, 98+ Nero QS scores are very much attainable by ANYONE, there is nothing "special" about my system compared to anyone else's...i just make sure it's kept clean and in optimal condition~

    i get marginally lower scores on Verbatim media (96+) MCC003/MCC004 and about the same on the dvd-r format for Taiyo Yudens, but don't worry about the scores too much, it's just a fair indication of how good your backups are, far from being the determining factor of a good or bad burn~ :)

    if you don't notice any playback problems, good chance you are doing things correctly and have nothing to worry about~ burn on my friends...

    doc,

    You are a dog, woof, woof. I hope that conroe turns into a canoe and sinks :). I'm only kidding of course. Once again my pc is from the stone age. How does your conroe perform compared to your AMD set up? Good to see/hear from you my friend.

    Good to see you Doc!!!
    I recently purchased the 1650 myself and love it.
    I will be PM'ing you soon about more OC tips for that AMD build if I ever get a day off to set around and play so Bware! :)
    I did well with some of your tips so far and thank you again.
    I'm off to finish the backup of the classic movie "The Dark Crystal" for my daughter, using a TYG02 of course...

    DocTY, So far zipzoomfly has not sent an email informing me of the out of stock, 1650. I'm hoping I got in soon enough. Now I wish I had ordered 2. My wife has other thoughts. I will try to sneak it in the door when delivery is made. LOL. Glad to see you back, buddy.

    I couldn't find the 1650 anywhere so I coughed up the extra $10 and got the 1655 from meritline about 5 minutes ago. Hopefully the rig I'm putting it it will produce some solid burns (AMD Athlon 1.3GHz, 640Mb ram) So we shall see! Can't wait to get that puppy and burn some T02s.
