Well it's currently not in stock.

LiteOn is about half as much.

The talk here about LiteOn has been pretty good.

I don't know just now if Best Buy has them on the shelf
    at a good rate.

Best buy has drives at twice the price of newegg everyday. Find something on line and get two for what best buy wants.

ok guys. im scratchin my head here in confusement.

last march a buddy of mine gave me some windata 8x+r's when i was low on disc. i burnt fantastic four on it for my boys. yes i put them stupid sticky covers on it. my son went to play it in his playstation. needless to say it didnt work. not because its a windata, but cause of the sticky cover. i took the sticky stuff off cleaned it up real good and put it in his PS2. works great.

Here is the twist. i put it in my drive to do a scan on it. first of all it scans out as a TY???? yea blew me away also... first i thought thet were fake just for the fact in the nero scan the manufature had ????? in it. so i opend dvdidentifier.. here is what i seen.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD+R:YUDEN000-T02-000]
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Disc & Book Type : [DVD+R] - [DVD+R]

    Manufacturer ID : [YUDEN000]

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    [ DVD Identifier V5.0.1 - http://DVD.Identifier.CDfreaks.com ]
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

now here is a dvdidentifier of a disc that TY sent me same thing 8x+r

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD+R:YUDEN000-T02-000]
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

same thing.. as the windata from microcenter...
the only difference is the windata isnt booktyped to dvd-rom.(was just learning back then.lol)

now ive had some other windatas code out as cmc mag. if they are useing TY's also how the hell can we tell other than buying them and scanning them... heck 100 8x+r windatas that code out as TY for only $14.99 let me go to the bank....

    cincyrob,
I would get out the old magnifying glass and give it the check around the hub. :) If they prove to be TY's then your in a dilemma. lol. I guess if you knew where they were made that would make a big difference. MIJ for TY, you know that. :)

Sorry that didn't help much but I would like to get a truck load for $14.99 per 100 pack. LOL.

I was always to lazy to put those dang things on. I just bought the crappy media for a while until I figured out there was "quality" media available and most times cheaper. lol.

    greensman,

You got it installed? It is a better card than that X1600 pro I mentioned (and caught grief over) but I was just throwing out some cards in your price range. The X1600 pro in my old pc was a good card for what I paid for it at the time but not as good as the 7600GT.

    Cincyrob--

That Taiyo Yuden scan is not bad for a disc that has had a label stripped off it. The label probably pulled the disc out of its tilt specifications, and the pressure used in removing the label and cleaning up the disc may have physically damaged it. Appearance is not enough to judge whether or not a disc works well. Out-of-spec tilt for DVDs is so small it is invisible to the eye. You might want to transfer the data to another disc in case that one goes bad.

    @JoeRyan
thats whats odd about that disc before i did anything with it i put it in my standalone and it played fine with the cover on it, but it wouldnt play in my sons PS2. befor i cleaned the cover off i did see if i could rerip it and it went fine.

now heres a new twist in the windata disc at micro center. these 16x+r are codeing out as MCC004 verbs???? im titally confused now. how in the hell can i tell if they are legit??? identifier shows the manufacture and id as verbs the good verbs not the crapy MCC03GR20????

the only thing there is nothing on the hub other than a very small scribe of dvd+r????

here is the dvdidentifier scan of the disc.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have been reading the posts. been burning for awhile and made all the mistakes from stick ons to bad media. now going thru my movie collection to redo and remove all the bad media. true to form the old media is near a 75 percent failure rate. all but 1 disk from ty's to verbs is good and has been for quite a while. it was an expensive and time consuming lesson. thank you doc ty. now buy exclusively from supermediastore with no problems as I know what I order is what I get. no fishing in stores.

Just to add my two cents here---I also have learned the hard way to rely only on good media, specifically now I only use Taiyo Yudens. I test the quality and it is almost always 93 and above with Nero check. I am amazed at the PI error and failure rates being so low compared even to verbatim datalife plus and others. I also order from Supermediastore only now. I got a batch of 8x Ty from Rima.com which said "made in Taiwan" and they turned out to be junk. very erratic burns, etc. I suspect they were fakes, tho who can prove it. I let Rima know just for their info, but will definitely stick with Supermediastore. I went back and checked some of my older dvds and sure enough, at least half are bad now. Boy, did I waste alot of time over the past couple of years! I have found that the 8x Ty gives a slightly better quality burn than the 16x in my Litey burner. I almost always now use DVDFab to decrypt and burn with Nero Recode at either 4x or 6x. In this game, you certainly learn alot by doing---and reading the forums here for some initial guidance.
