    Hello there,

I have one quick question. Concerning "true" Taiyo Yuden's, is the GGxxx code supposed to on the actual inner plastic ring, or on the writable side of the disc itself, between the dark ring and the start of the see-through plastic ring?

The reason I ask this is because I ran across an 8x 100 pack bundle (hub printable), and they cause my games to stutter. The GGxxx code resides on the writable side of them.
I also ran into another bundle that has the term "P&O Reflections" on the disc, and the GGxxx code resides on the inner ring (see-thru portion). Playback is flawless.

Just wanting to clear some fog,

well for the main reason we only have 1 source of a good DL disc. i allways thought more is better.
also if there was more than 1 quality DL disc to choose from the price might come down also. verbatim knows they are the only real quality DL disc maker out there

Pretty good argument I think cincyrob. I never thought of the old supply and demand thing. I don't buy DL media just for the reason of $$$. If I can't squeeze it down to a DVD-5 with decent quality then I just watch the original. LOL.

Plus you gotta emphasize the quality issue as well. TY makes very good media and if they chose to enter the DL market I would expect the same.

Not that I count but I added another couple of cents into the mix.

    @Mort81,
How's it going? Haven't chatted in a while. Sent you a PM, did you get it? btw I've burned a couple (30-40) 16X Verbs lately and I'm not getting quite the "quality" burn I would like to see. I've tried all speeds and 8X and 12X seem to give the best result with 12X edging out most of the time. Of course I've been scanning, which doesn't mean a lot I know, with Nero and they don't seem to be as good of a scan as the YUDEN T02. 2 different Litey's so I expect good results.

Now to the point, sorry. What are the settings that give you the best burn as far as play and scan score? The reason I ask you is because I know that you use Verbs and have at least one Litey. TIA.

    greensman,

I very seldom scan my burned media. All I know is they play back flawlessly. Never a skip, pause, or any pixelation. I almost always use my litey to burn. No special settings. I usually burn iso's using imgburn that was made with rb/cce. My benq is a faster ripper so I use it to rip and besides since 1650's aren't being made anymore I don't want to wear out it's laser burning. Last pm I got from you was on the 17th.

    cincyrob,

    Good point.

    greensman,

Like I said I don't scan very often but just for you here is a 16x verbatim dvd+r booktyped dvd-rom, burned at 12x on my litey today.

you beat me mort81. i had the same burner and same disc mcc004 but never got to 98 man. the closest i got on litey was 95 and i am already impressed with that. You are killing me with 98 mort81.
Good thing is I am not as concern as those scores as I used to be.

    1. I had the Lite-on LH-18A1P and could not get it to work to save my life. finally sent it back to PCI Micro and that's the last I have seen of it and my money.
    2. I use mainly a Litey SHW-160P6S and ever since I updated Nero7 I cannot use Nero Recode. Get error 1066, 1135 and thus I am back to using DVDFAB to decrypt and then Shrink to compress and burn with nero. this works even if recode won't. In any event, ever since I have been doing this, I have gotten some fantastic results quality-wise using TY02----8X premium line, DVD-R, burning at 4x. Consistent 98% with hardly any PI failures and minimal PI errors. Much better results than recode ever was. Shrink seems to do a heck of a job not only shrinking but utilising nero to burn. I highly recommend Taiyo Yudens, especially the premium 8x!

ok i'll kick in here, why i don't know but here i am. LOL. yep i've had almost zero problems with the drive but my old mobo and i are never speaking again. LOL. i guess that i got lucky in this LITE-ON purchase thing. it seems that all of the people here that have one of the LH-18A1P optical drives have had some sort of problems except me and UnJust2u. I don't think he writes with his tho. i haven't seen a post that indicates that he does but on the other hand i've seen him mention burning with his NEC i think. who really knows and cares at this point. lol. you guys just want a better writing/burning machine no matter the drive maker. :)

ok what do you do now? i still can't believe that there is so many problems with this drive, but it's not an isolated incident so the validity of the problems are real. i've questioned some of the intelligence but never cincyrob even tho he may rummage around in the dumpster every once in a while he still is a smart cookie and also smart enough to ask some of the gurus/knowledgeable for advice to make sure he's looking or doing the right thing. btw that's exactly what i do. there are a few select here that get the crap bugged out of them by me and whoever else is smart enough to tap their intellect. no BS here the truth shall set you free as they say. :)

i'm all tapped out cincyrob on this ordeal and what to do besides make an exchange for a better drive. If it doesn't work with minimal effort then try something else in this case. it's nothing like the crap i went thro with my mobo and the pixelation issues my system was giving me. whole different story and really not worth the trip if you know what i mean. lol.

well what else do we do? i guess i'll burn some more kiddie movies and do some more scans for the scan thread and maybe sneak a couple of TY's in there to make it official. LOL

It's all in the signature guys, would you rather burn well for Greensman's pic, or CincyRob's pic? Maybe I'm wrong, but it's something to look into...

Guys: I have the same as CincyRob.184A. I forgot to say that it is not everytime I burn, but I would say about 1 out of 10. I will follow up immediately after running one through Infopro and then burn another that will be perfect. Sometimes instead of crc errors it will be a burn that leaves a different color rim and sends up that message that the dis was defective. I use nothing but Tys

Have you tried setting up the new Litey as the "Master" Drive? I'm sure you've thought of this already, but if you haven't, it may be a shot in the dark.

Maybe it's just me but I have almost always had one model lite-on dvdrw drive or another. I have always had better success and results with dvd+r media over dvd-r media with all my liteys. Then again I have also always had better performance and results with verbatim dvd+r's over all other media, including taiyo yuden with my liteys. So what do I know.

I switched exclusively to verbatim dvd+r's when I started having some pausing/skipping about every 10 or so ty's I burned. My verbs NEVER pause, skip, or pixelate and I've burned a bunch of em. Just something to consider. Just maybe it isn't the lite-on dvdrw drive. Try some verbatim dvd+r's with your liteys and give it a chance to learn the write strategy.

Plextors, which are supposedly the best drives made, send a sample blank verbatim dvd (can't remember if it's a +r or -r) with their new retail drives (or at least they used to).

Yes, I am pro verbatim dvd+r, but for good reasons. They have performed better than any other media for me. Just my 2 pennies.

Mort it was Verbatim DVD+R that Plextor sends with there new drives.Plextor test there drives with Taiyo Yuden so TY media is a perfect match. however Verbatim does just as good i just prefer the TY

Rob i PM(ed) you about your problem. a rollback or cross flash of that drive may work. i burn TY DVD dash R with my Lite-On SHW-160P6S with never ever a problem. Lite-On just got it wrong when they released that drive to the market
