    On the goblet of fire Decrypter placed the break right when the orchestra leader was preparing the first dance at the ball. Just after the harry and date enter. Froze right where the elf lifted his baton to start music.then it just skipped for several scenes in that chapter the rest went normal. I tossed it and reburned with nero express with anyDVD. perfect

    Hello,
    I have used Verbatim 8x dvd-R pastel TY GO2 dye for a long time but unfortunatly they are no longer available,so I bought a small ammount of Taiyo yunden discs both 8x and 16x both dvd-R using Plextor 717uf drives and XL Prof. software I tested these in comparison to the aformentioned verbatim discs each test gave verbatim better results. This leads me wonder if I have the gen. TY Discs,the readings on the ring of the disc is 123456789ending in GH or GG.Is there a registered supplier of TY discs in the UK that I can buy from an d know that they are real
    Thank you for reading this

    @alwyn: Well, it seems that the UK is plagued with fake TY sellers out there, but the one that has been trying to establish itself as a genuine TY reseller at the moment is SVP (and there could be others, but this one is the first that I found). Their website is at http://svp.co.uk/

    I'm not sure, but it seems as though their prices might be a little high, however. It MIGHT be worth it just to stick with Verbatims until someone gets them marked at a more reasonable price. Most here will agree there is almost no difference between MCC's and TY's.

    @tokijin: Looks like there are some Benq 1650 and 1655s in there, so I'd recommend any of those (there's a beige and black 1650 and a black 1655, from what I could see), with a recommendation for the 1650 if the person has no interest at all in Lightscribe.

    I think benq's are the best bang for the buck but plextor probably makes the best drives.

    Hello guys,
    For the benq dw1650 I think somewhere it saids its got 2 year manufacture warranty. Since some of the guys mentioned that the Benq tech suppoort is almost nonextistent. My question is how are we going to be able to claim the warranty when something goes wrong with the drive??

    thanks

    @mort81: I agree, Plextor makes an amazing drive, providing not only a very solid performer, but their quality control is definitely the best.

    @Yujenh: It's been my experience that a drive will either work fine or it will be DOA/die within a few days of purchase, normally fast enough to return it to the place you bought it, if they have any kind of customer support at all. My thoughts would be, if the drive does fail, work with Benq on getting it replaced, then buy yourself a Lite-On 1693S or some other top-end drive with a different chipset. This way, not only will you have a backup drive, but you'll be more likely to have a drive that will burn any media well. (Like docTY has said, he prefers his Lite-On for DVD-R media, and his Benq for DVD+R booktyped to DVD-ROM.) Hope that helps!

    I like my litey too for burning +r and booktyping to dvd-rom but just prefer my benq. No reason really, they both perform well and have pros and cons. My litey is a faster ripper but my benq is not as choosey about media. Both burn high quality media and DL media equally well.

    To Delatuer
    thanks for your advice and this 1650 is a back up drive. i guess i will make it a primary drive and then the nec 3550 could be the spare drive.
    i kinda like to not disagree with you guys but mention little bit
    about the pioneer dvr-110. Since its on that listing also. I have one for couple month and its very good drive especially for the -r. the reason i have to get a 1650 is because a friend bought the pioneer from me because one of his drive broke down and need one really bad.

    To Jurgennop
    I would suggest you take a look at the supermida.com. I believe they ship almost worldwide and they might have benq 1655 and pioneer 110 available. To me i think those drive would be pretty good choice.

    @Yujenh: Hey, don't feel bad about disagreeing, because as long as it's respectful disagreement, nobody here is going to mind much (this is a VERY polite bunch of forum users, probably the best I've seen so far). In fact, when a person can cite good experiences with a specific piece of hardware or media, that is quite helpful, because it helps others know what to expect from a new purchase. I, for instance, would have had a hard time narrowing down which drive to get as a backup, myself, if it wasn't for this forum and the experiences of other members. I must admit that I'm a bit worried about the 1655, just because of some of the Newegg.com customer reviews, but I have to believe that Benq, who have produced some amazing drives, beginning with what looks like the 1620s, will have made an effort to iron out any problems with the drives based on the returns they are getting.

    Hello Guys,
    I just got the 200 8x dvd-r from the supermedia. The plastic outer box of the media have been damage. However they have agree to accept the return but i will have to pay for the return shipping. My question is this: does the damage on the plastic box is going to effect the performance of the disc?? should i just get a return anyway. Also does this happned to anybody before?? Or am I just happended to be not lucky these cople days.

    thanks

    @yujenh

    USUALLY a damaged cakebox doesn't harm the actual discs in any way, however, most people EXPECT to receive what they pay for in pristine condition...how were your 200 discs shipped? meaning, did they just throw 4 50-pack spindles inside a box and put those air cushions around them for "minimal" protection during transit?

    usually, most orders from supermediastore come to your door with no damage, i've been pretty lucky with them in the past, having no broken spindles or whatnot...but, it's been awhile since i've ordered from them, so i don't know how good the shipping dept. is these days...

    guess u've been unlucky? anyways, don't worry about disagreeing w/ the others here, we ALL have our own opinions about components and stuff, i personally LOVE my Pioneer dvr-109, it's an older model, but by FAR my fastest burner...i've had it since it was released and it's still kickin' :)

    i've read a lotta good things about the 110d too, the only prob. with pioneers is the lack of booktyping features unless you use hacked firmware (which i do btw), other than that, they are excellent drives and built very well, my 109 is proof of that~

    Liteons burn well to both dvd-r and dvd+r formats, i just PREFER to use my Benq for the dvd+r/dvd+r DLs...just a personal choice, as i mentioned earlier, i'm not saying either the Liteon or Benq can't burn very well to either formats, it's just i prefer to use one or the other for my specific purposes :)

    since the cakebox was damaged during transit, i would totally complain to supermediastore and politely DEMAND they pay for shipping back to them...that's just what i would do if i were in ur shoes~

    docTY~

    hello doc
    its just exactly as you describe it man. they did not put in enough cusion to support the media. they put 4 box of 50 in each corner and then put the thing in the middle and then cover on the top. So the damage really came from the corner. One of the box is almost shatter everywhere and the other box have damage on top of the plasstc box. i would expected the big company like supermedia to do much better with shipping stuff. thats why i have ask to see if the guys in here have similar problem with supermedia. Its kinda sucks that they acutally charge 15% restocking fee and i have to paid for return shipping and its not even my fault that the disc come in damage.

    @yujenh

    that's why you raise hell with them on the phone, but in a stern and polite manner...hehe, if supermediastore sent ME damaged media due to poor packing, believe you me a 15% re-stocking fee is totally unacceptable and i would demand they make things right...

    in ur case, IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT...deal with them aggressively, don't let them push you around...be calm about it, but voice your displeasure about your order...if you speak to them in a civil matter, they will give in...as with most businesses, "the customer is always right" :) they will come to a compromise if handled correctly~ :) good luck buddy...

    It's not your fault they didn't package them good enough. Do as docTY suggested and complain to supermedia store. I personally have never had a problem with them. Later.

    Well, not such luck guys.
    I have been really nice and kind. I told them I only want to have the damage ones being return for exchange and they will not be responsible for return shipping whatsoever. So I guess I am running out of the luck. I am kinda thinking i might be keeping the disk since it probably will cost at least 10 or 15 to ship the thing. It weights 9lbs. I will just have to get rid of the damage box and use my own box instead.

    Thanks for all the help and suggestions.

    I may rethink my patronage of this store, but like I said before, I haven't had a problem.

    @ kivory666 & aabbccdd

    Hello, I'm the guy with the one in a million problem that you guys helped me with a few weeks ago starting on page 6 of this thread in which my stand alone players wouldn't play TY-R media but would play every other media and brand I've ever thorwn at it in both formats, including Sonys+R 8x mij which is TY in the + format and I don't Book Type, yeah confusing huh? haha. I wound up returning them. Then last weekend I ordered a 100pk of Verbatims+R 8x on sale. I thought they would code as MCC which I've used before and worked great. However, when I received them and checked with DVD Identifier to my suprise they coded as....

    Unique Disc Identifier: [DVD+R:YUDEN000-T02-000]
    Disc & Book Type: [DVD+R]-[DVD+R]
    Manufacturer Name: [Taiyo Yuden Co. Ltd.]
    Manufacturer ID: [Yuden000]
    Media Type ID: [T02]

    which is the same as the overpriced Sony+R's I've been using. So here's my question. If I order actual TY+R at 8x on my next purchase can I expect to get the same ID? I've used a few spools of these now and feel comfortable that they work best for me. Now I'm just trying to get the best price possible in doing so and TY seems to usually have a better price than the others with this media code.

    PS. I'm still VERRRRRRRY curious why my stand alones would not play TY-r's and has played -r's from Imitation, TDK, Virbatim, Sony, and many more etc etc etc. That just doesn't mesh, haha, but I don't want to invest in another 100pk of TY-r's just to experiment some more and have to go through the hassles of a return again.

    UPDATE, cancel everything I just said above about the Verbs being TY code, lol I thought that was a mistake and should have double checked before I wrote this, I put the wrong disc in the drive and checked it-kicking self. They are MCC003 which is what I expected. I still would like to know about the TY+r 8x question above. Thanks and I'm going to go eat crow now, lol.

    @Yujenh
    I only had 1 problem with supermediastore and receiving damaged goods but it was jewel cases & only a few were cracked - the media has always been fine and packed pretty well. I've been using them for almost 2 years and have placed quite a few orders though probably not nearly as many as doc. As doc said the discs should be fine but if not I would call them back again and this time speak with a manager/supervisor. I checked their website and couldn't find anything about a 15% restocking fee - unless I'm missing something or this is new.
    Funny they also told me +r is more cause it's a better format yet on their website is has that it's hard to say which is a better format. hmmm I'll still order from them though probably place another order within the next week.
