Doc, i totally agree with you and like i already stated i have no intentions on switching media nor am i complaining, all im curious to is basically is it the disc itself that gives slightly lower print quality or would it be a case of the printer not being set up good enough. that is all, i really dont mind the way they look but seeing that i dont plan on using any other brand if theres a way to improve it on my end, why not? and if there isnt, then no big deal im more than happy with TY media ...

    ThyDemise,

I personally feel that the verbatim hub printables look better than the ty's. They are both good quality media and about the only difference I can see is the quality of the pritable surface. I'm not trying to steer you away from ty's but you can find verbatim hub printables at most good online media retailers. I usually find the best prices for my verbatim datalifeplus dvd+r hub printables at amazon.com

    Mort,
You just called it right, that is the reason I'm mixing the Yudens with the Verbs. Verbs for hub and white inkjet the TY for the silver non hub.

Being in the UK I have been able to get Plextor YUDEN000T03 and Verbatim TYG02. The Plextor DVD+R are without exception excellent but I have had problems with the Verb DVD-R: at least every other disc burns fine but when scanned shows large amounts of PIEs and PIFs at the edge of the disc. If you examine some unburned discs under strong light you can clearly see speckles at the edges which are the likely culprit. This might explain why in UK terms they are cheaper then the unbranded TY. But more expensive or not next time I get TYG02s I'm getting unbranded.

I use only dvd+r's (I booktype all my burns dvd-rom) and have never had any problems with the verbatim MCC media except where the fault was mine or in one case where it was a hardware issue.

I too have never had any problems with the MCC Verbs. Just bought 100 of the Digital Reel one from BB. I know they are only 4x speed, but they burn well, play well, and look neat. Like to put the older movies on them.

I "3" have never had probs w/ MCC Verbatims, that were NOT my own fault of course...yes, i've made coasters before, but it was MY OWN DOING...lol

i can totally believe that the Verbatim hub inkjet printables have a nicer surface for printing on them, i've never burned on them MYSELF, but i was given 2 backups on the printable datalifeplus Verbs from my cousin who made me his wedding video on them...naturally, he made a "custom cover" with his ugly mug and his pretty wife right there on top..it turned out great~ :0 the quality of the video as well as the cover were very good by the naked eye and upon closer inspection when compared to my OWN TY printables, i must admit, his looked a lot nicer, despite his face being on the one he gave me and i had angelina jolie on mine~ :)

keep the good info coming fellas...this thread is quite interesting w/ such a diverse array of opinions and preferences~ good day to you all

Well I can't make a comment on printables since I don't have a printer that does it. I will take everyones word on the quality though since it comes from impeccable sources. The only way mine will get coverart is if I take all my colored sharpies and try an artistic endeavor, lol.

I 2nd that notion~ :) actually my wife takes all my colored sharpies and doodles on a lot of my backups, i buy a lot of those "girly" movies for her, ie. serendipity, in her shoes, a lot of the various Lindsey Lohan flicks, etc... :)

she understands why i keep the originals stored away safely in my bookcases, so she draws ALL over my backups for her to take back home and watch w/ her family and friends~

anyways, my experience with inkjet printable media is pretty limited compared to the other guys on here...but, i have a few...i was in my Jolie stage for awhile and every printable backup i made i plastered her pic on there for the fun of it...LOL...kinda hard to figure out which was which when i was digging through a binder with similar artcovers on all of them~ ;)

    docTY~

colored sharpies ROCK~! hand in hand with TY's silver shiny/ silver lacquer discs~

I can't get my backups to work. Does the quality of media I use matter? I think the Media ID is CMC Mag, is this good? lol.

I'm telling you CMC Mag's quality is unparalleled. Yeah I get the 8x TYG02's. I seem to get optimum results burning at 4x. I recently switched to Sony DVD-R's for movies. I was tired of using Ritek G05, especially with all the failing Ritek's out there (though I think those were mainly printable). So far so good, Sony is lower rung first rate media. I definitely get fewer max PIF's then I get with RitekG05. Unfortunately the Sony DRU-810A doesn't support PIE scans. I could cross flash with BenQ firmware and use it with Qsuite, but it isn't worth the risk. I use TYG02 for all my PS2 backups, 130+ games with 0 coasters/boot failures. TY for life! DocTY for life! Cheers!

    @Tokijin

If you're going with the Sony media, then make sure it has "mij", otherwise it won't be a Yuden media. My moto is "made in japan" for all FUJI, SONY & Maxell DVD+R media, if I buy them locally. Unless I'm getting MCC003 or MCC004, then that's another story.
